Dear Parents,
This school year, all Physical Education classes at PORTA Jr/Sr High School will be
using new heart rate monitor technology as a method of assessing students during class.
Polar GoFit uses bluetooth smart technology allowing the teacher and student to follow
the student’s heart rate online during a PE lesson. Using this technology, teachers provide
direct feedback to students and students use self-assessment during their workout. Data is
saved automatically online for later analysis and evaluation. Using heart rate monitors
individualizes workouts for students and helps students of any ability reach their

Beginning September 14 daily physical education grades will be based upon the
following rubric (monitors will not be worn on swimming days):
