SECOND ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION

The Hylton Center is hosting its second annual juried exhibition to celebrate the region’s
vibrant visual arts community. A distinguished panel of judges will jury submissions and
chose the top entries to be exhibited in the Center’s Buchanan Partners Art Gallery from May
17 – June 28. Interested artists, please read requirements and deadlines below.
Along with the honor of being chosen to exhibit, the following awards will be announced at a
reception on Thursday, June 11 at 6:00 pm. Award recipients will receive a certificate, a
cash prize, and the winner of “Best of Show” will have an opportunity to exhibit their work
in a solo show in the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery during the 201 5-2016 season.

TIMELINE:
- Submissions Due: February 1 – April 17, 2015
- Selected Exhibiting Artists and Award Winners Notified: April 27, 2015
- Exhibition: May 17 – June, 2015
- Reception: June 11, 2015 at 6:00 pm
SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be a resident of the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Submissions due February 1 – April 17, 2015 (closes at 11:59 pm)
- Applicants under the age of 18 must have guardian’s consent
- All artwork must be created within the last five years
- Up to two pieces of artwork per applicant
- Complete application form for each submission along with $35 submission fee for
each submission, non-refundable. Application is not complete until the Hylton Center
receives submission fee
- Along with the application submit one jpeg image for 2D work and two jpeg images
of 3D work, no larger than 25 MB total
- 3D pieces cannot manipulate Gallery space
- 2D pieces must be wired on the back for install

NOT ELIGIBLE:
- Parts acquired from killing or using endangered species (animals and/or plants)
- Commercially made objects (except as com ponents of “found object” sculpture)
- Art created with commercial kits (i.e. molds, patterns, plans, etc.)
- Pieces that have been exhibited in the Buchanan Partners Art Gallery
- No work can manipulate the Gallery space
CATEGORIES AND DESCRIPTIONS OF ACCEPTED ART:
- CERAMICS – clay earthenware, porcelain, terracotta, or stoneware
- DRAWING – dry media
- FIBER – batik, book making, papermaking, quilting, weaving, etc. excludes clothing
- GLASS – Does not include jewelry
- JEWELRY AND WEARABLE ART
- FURNITURE
- MIXED MEDIA (2D OR 3D)
- PAINTING – must be original work
- PRINTMAKING – must be original and hand-pulled by submitting artist
- PHOTOGRAPHY – must be original work
- SCULPTURE – can be made of found objects. Medium includes wood, marble, stone,
etc.
