Hannah Anderson
Hannah Anderson is the new 3rd grade teacher. She grew up in
the Portland, Oregon area and spent the last 4 years studying
elementary education at Wheaton College in Illinois. Through
Wheaton she was able to make several connections that God
used to lead her to ECA, including meeting Annie Johnson her
freshman year, who told her about her awesome experience at
ECA. Her parents even met Jake Carlson’s aunt at a wedding in
Canada!
This is her first year in Colombia, and what she likes most are the
people and the delicious food. She loves how people have
welcomed her and made her feel at home. She likes that food is
a unique and cultural key to Colombia, especially ajiaco.


That Beth Afanador, on her recent recruiting trip, was able to speak to 16 college
education classes, visit 9 different universities in 3 states, participate in 6 different
recruiting fairs, and talk to over 100 different possible teachers. Pray that God will
continue to speak to those who are praying about teaching overseas.
Is anything too hard for the Lord?

ALL-SCHOOL NEWS
Student Health
Parents, do not send your children to ECA if they are sick. Several classes have
numerous students with respiratory or gastrointestinal viruses. Working together we
can stop the spread of infection.
Pre-K Applications for 2016-17
ECA Families and staff who have children eligible for Pre-Kinder in August are invited to
send an email to admissions@eca.edu.co if they are interested in enrolling next year.
MAP® Testing
ECA is implementing the Measures of Academic Progress® (MAP®) test, an online
adaptive standardized test that provides immediate feedback on student progress and
growth, as well as strengths and weaknesses. Parents of 2 nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th grade
students, please make sure your children are here at ECA on time the week of Nov 17 20 for the MAP® testing.
If you know of any homeschool families with children in those grades who might be
interested in taking advantage of this opportunity, tell them to contact the ECA office.
Saving Natural Resources
It's time to commit to saving water and electricity in our homes and at school. Parents,
take time to discuss this topic with your family. Next week the Environmental Committee
and our Operations staff will start a campaign to reduce overall consumption of electricity
at ECA. We count on your support!
Family Memory Verses
How did you do trying to fill in the blanks last week? Did you get them all? We have the
correct answers in red.
Review these three verses, reading them three times a day for the next 3 days.

Upper Elementary
Zach Dalton, one of our counselors, taught us
how to identify a person’s feelings by looking at
their body signals (faces.) Knowing our own
feelings is so important because our emotions
affect our thinking. When we are in the
emotional red zone, we may be grumpy or
upset, angry and out of control. When we are in
the yellow zone, we may be excited or
surprised, nervous or silly. When we are in the
blue zone, we may feel sad or hurt,
disappointed or depressed. How we feel can
strongly affect how we think or respond to
others. Be aware of the zone you are in!
Lower Elementary
We continued to see God's perfect love in the
Bible. Students learned that Gideon was used
by God, not through his own strength but
through God's perfect protection. After testing
God by putting out a fleece, he obeyed God
to fight his enemies with a small army without
using any weapons!

our kids to be stretched to rise to the challenge!

Mission Trips
Futuro Juvenil: We have 4 students and 2 teachers signed up to go to La
Mesa over Thanksgiving weekend. They have only 2 weeks of preparation
left, so pray for them, especially 2 students, María Alejandra Olarte and
Vanessa Vives, who are sick. We want to say, “Thank you!” to the Chaparro
Romero family for graciously offering to take our team in their truck.
Comunidad Cristiana Trompito Alto: Today is the first planning meeting in
preparation for the trip to Sierra Nevada during Semana Santa to minister to
Kogui Christians. Pray for the students to be able to raise the funds needed
for the trip.
Guanabara III: Due to an insufficient number of students signed up for the
Amazon ministry trip, that outreach has been canceled. Pray for people in
Guanabara III that we have invested in over the last 5 years, that the Lord
will continue to pull down strongholds held by the enemy in that spiritually
challenged area.

Guidance Counselor Corner
Dear Parents,
I want to address a question that several students have asked me this quarter:
Should I attend a summer course at a school in the U.S.?
This is a great question. There are many programs available every summer at schools
from coast to coast. As we have looked at programs, I have been asking students:
Why does this course interest you?
The lure of going to the U.S. and participating in a class that sounds fun is
very strong. But, this may not be enough reason to invest time and money.
It is worth looking at how this course will benefit your teen 2-5 years from
now. Will this be a course that will refine their current strength? Will this be
a precursor to what your teen wants to study in college?
Is the cost of the course more or less than the value this course will
provide?
The cost of the course varies in importance depending on your personal
finances. But, the cost of these courses will always be significant. The trip
will incur many costs that are not included on the glossy brochure. These
include logistics to and from the school, spending money during the teen’s
down time, and any unforeseen emergencies. This doesn’t include
nonfinancial costs, such as time invested in the course, being separated
from family, and possibly being alone in a completely new environment.
Once you work through these questions and are certain this course will be a blessing not
only to your teen but to your family, then you can proceed to the next steps. These are
expansive experiences for young people, and will be memorable. If you would like more
information on available courses, here is a link: http://www.fastweb.com/collegesearch/articles/summer-programs-for-high-school-students
