ACCESS TO LEARNING FUND 2014/15 – PART TIME STUDENT APPLICATION

completing this application form.
AIMS OF THE FUND
The Access to Learning Fund is a fund provided by the UK Government to support students who fall
into financial difficulty whilst studying at university. The Access to Learning Fund can award
discretionary grant payments to students in need. Whilst it cannot support every application it
receives, the following groups of students are priority:




Lone Parents
Care Leavers
Disabled Students
Final Year Students
You can still apply to the fund if you do not fall within one of the priority groups but are experiencing
financial difficulty.
CLOSING DATES
Final Year and Postgraduates: Friday 27th March 2015
Continuing Year: Friday 15th May 2015
Your application must be received by the relevant closing dates specified. If your application is received
after the closing date, it will not be considered.
ELIGIBILITY CHECK
If you can answer yes to all the following questions, you are eligible to apply to the Access to Learning
Fund. Further details regarding eligibility can be found in the Guidance Notes.

Are you a ‘Home’ student, or classed as a home student for fee purposes?

Are you enrolled and attending at least 50% of a full-time course this academic year? Or are you
a disabled students attending 25% of a full-time course this academic year?

Is your annual income under £16,845*?
*This amount increases if you have a partner or children. Please note, your partner’s income is also
included in the assessment.

CONFIDENTIALITY
Your application will only be viewed by staff in Student and Academic Services. In some instances, it
may be necessary for additional supporting information to be sought from other university staff in
order to reach a decision regarding your application. Information you disclose through the
application process will remain confidential.
COMPLETING THE ACCESS TO LEARNING FUND APPLICATION FORM - Complete all four sections of the
application form in BLOCK CAPITALS.

SECTION A (Personal and Bank Details) – Complete this section fully, as this information will be included
in the assessment.

SECTION B (Income and Expenditure) – Complete this section fully, providing weekly figures (where
applicable). You must provide EVIDENCE of ALL income and costs you list in Section B.

SECTION C (Course Related Expenditure) – Complete with section with information about the costs you
experience as a result of studying.

SECTION D (Declaration) –The application will not be considered unless the following items are
completed in ink: tick the relevant box, print your name, sign and date the application form.

SECTION C – Course Related Expenditure
All students to complete this section detailing costs you experience as a student.
Please only include costs you experience as a result of being a student. The fund is required to use a set figure
to cover the basic costs of your study that includes items such as course materials and books.

SECTION D – Declaration UK national students must answer sections (a) and (c). All other students must answer all sections.

intend to continue working while studying), or
(vi)
I am an EU national who has been ordinarily resident in the UK for the three years prior to the first day of the first
academic year of my course, or
(vii)
I am the child of a Swiss National, or Turkish worker
*‘settled’ – on the first day of the first academic year of your course
I was ordinarily resident** in England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland on the first day of the First academic
year of the course, and
I fall under either (i), (ii), (iv) or (vi) above and I have been ordinarily resident in the UK and Islands for the 3 years
immediately before the first day of the first academic year of my course***, or
I fall under (iii) above, or
I fall under (v) or (vii) above and I have been ordinarily resident in the EEA and Switzerland for the 3 years immediately
before the first day of the first academic year of my course, or
I fall under (viii) above and I have been ordinarily resident in the EEA, Switzerland and Turkey for the 3 years
immediately before the first day of the first academic year of my course.
**’Ordinarily resident’ is interpreted to mean habitual and normal residence from choice and for a settled purpose throughout the
prescribed period, apart from temporary or occasional absences. Such residence must also be lawful – that is, not in breach of any leave to
remain in the UK. (Persons awarded refugee status or humanitarian protection must have been ordinarily resident in the UK from the date
this status was granted.)***None of this time was wholly or mainly for the purpose of receiving full-time education, or if it was, was
resident in the EEA immediately prior to this three-year period.
