In English I will concentrate on:

*I can choose the handwriting that is best suited for a specific task.

*I can identify the audience and purpose of the writing.

*I can edit and improve my own writing.

*I can use commas to mark phrases and clauses.

*I can use the passive voice.

*I can vary sentence structure depending whether formal or informal.

*I write in paragraphs which can clearly signal a change in subject, time, and place of event.

In Mathematics I will concentrate on:

Fractions, Decimals and Percentages

Y5:

*I can recognise mixed numbers and improper fractions and convert from one form to the other.

*I can identify, name and write equivalent fractions of a given fraction, represented visually, including tenths and hundredths.

*I can add and subtract fractions with the same denominator and denominators that are multiples of the same number.

*I can read and write decimal numbers as fractions.

*I can write percentages as a fraction with denominator hundred, and as a decimal.

Y6:

*I can use common factors to simplify fractions and use common multiples to express fractions in the same denomination.

*I can add and subtract fractions with different denominators and mixed numbers, using the concept of equivalent fractions.

*I can use written division methods in cases where the answer has up to 2 decimal places.

*I can divide proper fractions by whole numbers.

*I can recall and use equivalences between simple fractions, decimals and percentages, including in different contexts.

in Religious Education we are thinking about:

*Understand what justice is and know that we are called to work for it.

*Know that God calls all of us to speak out about injustice.

*Know about individuals who have been persecuted for speaking out about injustice. Reflect on the cost of commitment.

*Be aware that Christians across the world speak up for justice and that justice starts with each one of us.

In my topic in Science I will be learning about:

The Nature Library:

*Can you face the garden centre challenge?

*How are vertebrates grouped together?

*What else is living besides plants and animals?

*How can you grow your own micro-organism?

*What happens when scientists disagree?

You can help by:

Asking your child about their school day.

Hearing your child read for at least 10 minutes a day and reading regularly to your child.

Revising times tables at a rapid pace.

Encouraging children to use Education City,

Oxford Owl, Purple Mash and Mathletics.

Supporting your child with homework tasks/spelling tasks and encouraging neat presentation of work.

Please make sure you have access to the SATS guidelines booklet (only needed if you are a Y6 parent.)
