Classes offered include classical ballet for all ages, beginner, intermediate and advanced pointe and children’s jazz. In December of 2012, Artistic Director, Missy Floyd, founded the Shenandoah Ballet. The newly formed ballet company will continue the Academy’s tradition of performing full-length classical ballets for the community. Students at the Shenandoah Academy of Dance and the surrounding studios will be offered a chance to audition for a position in the Shenandoah Ballet. The ballet company will also continue the tradition of offering roles to younger children as well as the members of the surrounding community. The ballet company will continue to produce the only fulllength, “Nutcracker”. Other ballets performed include, “Cinderella”, “The Sleeping Beauty”, “Coppelia” and the 2013 spring ballet, “Alice in Wonderland”. In January 2012, the studio welcomed Mr. Valery Lantratov of Moscow, Russia to teach a master class! This marks the first ever international guest star to teach at the Academy. Mr. Lantratov has made return trips to the studio to offer the dancers more opportunities to learn from such an amazing dance educator! Students of the academy have auditioned and earned acceptance into a variety of summer intensive programs such as the Texas Ballet Theatre, the Richmond Ballet, the Joffrey Ballet School, the Louisville Ballet School, Atlanta Ballet School, the Rock School in Philadelphia, Pa., the Cincinnati Ballet School, the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington, D.C. and the Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet, to name a few. Alumnus of the Academy have gone on to major in dance at Muhlenburg College, Brigham Young University and Shenandoah University. The studio is located at 2271 Sycamore Avenue, Buena Vista, Va. The studio boasts a fully sprung floor to promote safety for your dancer. Students attending classes at the academy are given individual attention as our teachers strive to provide the best classical ballet training available!
