Master of Engineering in Materiel Engineering
The Departments of Civil, Electrical, and Mechanical Engineering collectively offer a graduate program
leading to the Master of Engineering (M.ENG.) degree in Materiel Engineering. Materiel is defined as the
equipment, apparatus, and supplies used by an organization. Materiel engineering involves the design,
production, test and evaluation, distribution, operation and support, and ultimate disposition of man-made
equipment, apparatus, and supplies, and, as such, is highly interdisciplinary.
With this graduate degree, students are provided with enhanced opportunities for professional
development and career advancement. The company benefits from having a better skilled, more

Objectives
The general objective of this program is to provide a curriculum of the highest quality for postbaccalaureate learning opportunities in this highly important area. Specific objectives are as follows:




Provide students with a solid foundation in Materiel Engineering, as well as advanced studies in
areas of Civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering
Provide a continuum of study leading to a graduate degree
Provide a program of study that also accommodates the needs and limitations of mature adults
engaged in full-time employment
Respond to the anticipated requirement of making the master’s degree, or the equivalent, as an
entry-level qualification for attaining professional licensure.
Regular Admission
This program is intended for individuals holding a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited
institution in any area of engineering, mathematics, physics, or related sciences.
Applicants must also provide two letters of recommendation and submit details of any professional work
experience. Students from non-English speaking countries are required to have a minimum score of 61
iBT, or 500 PBT on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).
To be admitted with regular status to the Master of Engineering program, an applicant must:



Hold a bachelor’s degree in an engineering program from an accredited ABET program.
Provide evidence of an overall Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.00 on a scale of 4.00, or
have passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Examination.
Minimum of GRE scores of 148 on the quantitative portion and 294 on the combined verbal and
quantitative portions.
Conditional Admission
Applicants who do not meet the requirements for regular admission may be granted conditional
admission. Students who are conditionally admitted must fulfill specific requirements stipulated in their
letter of admission. Conditional admission status may be granted to applicants with:
Applicants with a bachelor’s degree in engineering may receive conditional admission provided their
GPA is at least 2.5 on all under-graduate engineering courses attempted. Individuals with a bachelor’s
degree in physics, mathematics, computer science, chemistry, or other fields closely related to
engineering may receive conditional admission. All students admitted conditionally are required to earn a
minimum grade of ’B’ in each deficiency course to progress to regular admission. Students who fail to
meet this requirement will be dismissed from the program.
GRE Waiver
Applicants to the Master of Engineering in Materiel Engineering program who meet the following criteria
are eligible for a waiver of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). The eligibility for the waiver is based on
the undergraduate cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale, and a minimum of three years of
relevant professional experience. Every applicant is reviewed for the waiver when the application is
received; however, a resume is required. The resume should include applicant’s employment history,
professional accomplishments, and three references, one of which must be a supervisor who is familiar

Degree Requirements
The Master of Engineering degree in Materiel Engineering is a professional degree and does not require a
thesis, but requires a capstone project. The program requires a minimum of 30 semester hours of
graduate-level courses with a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.0. Students seeking Master's degrees
may, upon departmental approval, transfer a maximum of twelve semester hours of approved graduate
credits from an accredited institution.

Six hours of graduate-level electives should be chosen in any area that strengthens a student’s
career goals, and as approved by the advisor.
