Bryan Lancaster formally takes up CEO role
Moonee Valley Mayor Andrea Surace today officially welcomed Bryan Lancaster to the role of Chief Executive
Officer. Mr Lancaster has been acting in the position since late August.
Mr Lancaster has more than 38 years’ experience in local government across a range of senior executive
areas and was previously Moonee Valley Council’s Director of City Works and Development.
“I’m delighted to welcome Mr Lancaster to his new position and look forward to working closely with him as we
build on the already extensive strengths of our organisation and continue to deliver outstanding services to our
community,” Cr Surace said.
Mr Lancaster has wasted no time in getting on with his new role – already announcing a number of structural
changes to the organisation designed to enhance performance and service delivery and improve customer
experiences.
“I’m very proud to take on the role of CEO at Moonee Valley Council,” Mr Lancaster said.
“We have a dynamic team of professional and dedicated staff and I am looking forward to working with them to
better align the organisation to maximise our ability to deliver high-quality and cost-effective services, programs
and projects on behalf of the community.”
Mr Lancaster has sought staff feedback on his proposed restructure of the organisation and is expected to
finalise the process before mid-December.
Mr Lancaster also praised the work of outgoing Chief Executive Neville Smith, whose contract expired on
November 14.
“Neville Smith made an exceptional contribution to Moonee Valley Council and the community during his five
years as Chief Executive and I’m very proud to be able to pick up from where he left off and continue the
process of ongoing improvement,” Mr Lancaster said.
Mr Lancaster has extensive senior local government experience having worked for metropolitan, regional and
rural councils throughout Victoria and in the private sector.
During his time in local government Mr Lancaster has been the Director of Asset Management at Yarra City
Council; Director Physical and Community Services at Macedon Ranges Shire Council and has also overseen
the delivery of a range of community services. He is a qualified civil engineer and has post graduate
qualifications in municipal engineering.
