2015-16 Scholarship Application
Scholarships are awarded following an annual competition to students who demonstrate a high
degree of achievement and potential and who will be continuing their studies at the Chilliwack
Academy of Music the following academic year.
To be considered, students must:
1. Be currently registered with a teacher at the Chilliwack Academy of Music and be in good standing with the
Chilliwack Academy of Music (i.e. account not in arrears)
2. Take part in a competition over which a jury panel will preside to assess each candidate
3. Choose repertoire as outlined below
The 2015-16 Academy Scholarship Competitions will take place Friday, Apr 24, from 6-9 p.m., and
Saturday, Apr 25, 2015 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Chilliwack Academy of Music.

Repertoire Criteria

ADJUDICATION
1. A jury panel will be formed consisting of the Department Head, the Principal to act as a neutral juror, and (if
possible) one other department Faculty member.
2. Jurors may choose to hear each work in its entirety or only selections from each

4. One photocopy or original of the score being performed (i.e. include any accompaniment part) must
be provided for the jury
5. Candidates will be judged based on presentation, interpretation, technique, musicianship, and selection.
6. The decision of the jury is final.
7. If no candidates are judged to be of sufficient calibre for an award, no award will be given.
NOTIFICATION OF AWARDS
Candidates will receive notification of their results through official letter. All results and juror comments will be
forwarded to each candidate’s private teacher.
PAYMENT OF THE AWARD
All award winners are expected to perform at the annual Student Honours Concert as a condition of their award.
The concert will be held at the Chilliwack Academy of Music on Saturday May 30th, at 1:00 pm. If a candidate
cannot attend the concert, special permission must be obtained in writing from the Principal in order to receive the
scholarship award. Awards will be applied toward private instruction at the Chilliwack Academy of Music for use
in the next academic year. Award recipients must re-register by September 15 of each year in order to claim
their award; unclaimed scholarships will be awarded to other deserving students.
APPLICATION PROCEDURE
1. Application deadline is 4:30 p.m. Apr 12th.
2. Applications received after this deadline will not be considered.
3. Application forms are available through the Academy’s teachers, or online at www.chilliwackmusic.com.

ACCOMPANIST
Competitors may provide their own accompanist. If an accompanist is required, one will be provided free of
charge including one rehearsal, provided all of the following conditions are met:
1. The appropriate box is checked on the application form
2. Photocopies of all applicable selections are attached to the application form
3. The competitor contacts the accompanist to arrange a rehearsal at least two weeks prior to the competition
date. The accompanist’s contact information will be included with the confirmation the competitor will receive
regarding his/her audition time.
Note:
The cost of any additional rehearsals is the responsibility of the competitor.
