Please give a brief description of the unit:
Busy breast unit treating over 400 cancers/yr.
5 diagnostic clinics a week. Close collaboration with plastics team (5
Consultants).
Two weekly joint oncoplastic meetings. Eight weekly joint clinics. 9 operating
sessions a week.
Journal clubs, academic meetings weekly.
High rate of immediate reconstruction.
Steady risk-reducing mastectomy practice
Please give a brief description of the post:
There are two middle grade Sprs in this post. They are supported by two FY2
trainees and there is a research fellow who helps in clinics.
Three WTE consultants.
Two firms: Miss Roche (part tiem), Mr Berry
Mr Allum (part time non-oncoplastic), Miss Rusby
Opportunity to see/perform: Mammoplastys, skin-sparing mastectomy,
implant/ADM recon, DIEP. (v few LD recon).
What level of training is required?
Not currently recognized for training so ideally post-CCT, previous post-holders
have had their time recognized so may be suitable for ST6.
Is there General or Plastic surgery on call commitment?
No
What are the duties and responsibilities of the fellow?
Clinical:
5 theatre sessions
2 new patient clinics
1.5 follow up clinics
Teaching:
to FY2 trainees
Research/Audit
