American Society of Professional Estimators Chapter 79 Annual Scholarship Award – Rules and Criteria Chapter 79 of the American Society of Professional Estimators offers an undergraduate scholarship to a student enrolled in an accredited construction management or construction-related engineering program and who wishes to pursue a career in the field of construction cost estimating. 1. Eligibility a. Applicant must be enrolled full-time (12 hours or more) in a construction management or construction-related program at a college or university within 200 miles of Benton County, Arkansas. b. Applicant must be a second-year student at a two-year school planning to transfer to a four-year program for the following term, - OR Applicant must be a college sophomore or junior in a four-year program with at least one full academic year of coursework remaining. c. Applicant must have a current minimum GPA of 2.5. d. Applicant must be a US citizen or documented permanent resident. 2. Requirements a. Applicant must return a completed application. b. Applicant must return essay as described below. c. Applicant must return current transcript to verify credit hours and GPA. d. Applicant must return a letter of recommendation from educator or constructionindustry professional. e. Applications and associated submittals must be received no later than May 25, 2012 to be considered. 3. Essay a. Applicant must include a 500 word (maximum) typed essay describing Applicant’s desire to pursue a career in construction cost estimating as well as what Applicant wishes to accomplish in the field of cost estimating. b. Applicant may volunteer additional information regarding financial situation or family circumstances that create a scholarship need. c. Grammar and spelling are important components of essay and will be considered by judging panel in the review process. 4. Award a. Applications will be judged by the Board of Directors of Chapter 79 of the American Society of Professional Estimators. b. A $500 one-time scholarship will be awarded to the applicant who best demonstrates the mission and values of the American Society of Professional Estimators. c. Scholarship award is not automatically renewed. d. Scholarship award will be announced no later than June 8, 2012. e. Scholarship award will be distributed directly to Applicant. Monies will NOT be distributed though Applicant’s college or university. f. If possible, scholarship award may be presented at monthly Chapter meeting. g. Scholarship award will be announced at annual ASPE Chapter 79 Fall Estimating Academy. Information submitted in the response, including application, transcript data, resume history, and letter of recommendation will be held in strict confidence and will not be used for any purpose other than this scholarship competition. With the permission of the scholarship award winner, essays may be published to the ASPE Chapter 79 website along with announcement of award.
