o Make a claim: Write a statement that answers the research question.
o Summarize trends in the data. According to the graph, which experimental group
produced highest DO or consumed least DO? which experimental group produced
lowest DO or consumed the most DO?

o Calculate & compare rate - Use the mean class data from excel sheet
oxygen produced ÷ time (include units)
o Restate the null hypothesis. Was the null hypothesis accepted or rejected?
o Restate the alternative hypotheses, and state if each of the alternative hypothesis
was supported or not supported (DO NOTwrite “proven”).
o Check your work to make sure you did not use any personal pronouns or
contractions. Be specific. Use scientific writing. Do not just make lists. Capitalize
proper nouns. Do not capitalize common nouns.
o Data table needs (a) a descriptive title (title case), (b) headings, (c) means, and (d)
standard deviation, and (e) units for both (both units are the same).
o Insert a picture of your hand-drawn graph here. The graph will be graded in your lab
notebook.
Discussion:
In paragraph format, discuss the following:
o Restate the claim to focus the reader on the answer to the research question.
o What is THE REASON (highest/lowest change in DO) - explain the scientific concepts
behind the claim so that readers understand how the new information fits into
current knowledge – This will be the main part of the discussion section – it will
require at least one paragraph to explain the light-dependent reactions. Explain fully
and be specific.
o You are trying to show the connection between the IV and the DV. Why did the IV
cause and increase or decrease in oxygen produced. Be specific and explain using
your knowledge of the light dependent reactions.
o Convince me that you know how photosynthesis works
o how oxygen is made in photosynthesis
o why the IV caused a change in the DV
o Explain any negative values.
o Error analysis – if any of the data is unexpected try to understand why
Conclusions:
Summarize everything and answer the research question - 3-4 sentences only. Refer
back to the original overall research question involving maximizing oil production in N.
oculata.
