MEDICAL STAFF EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
The Medical Staff at Hartford Hospital (through December 2014) consists of 1331 Active
Staff, 198 Courtesy Staff, 538 Adjunct Staff and 94 Consulting Staff members. These
practitioners are members of 20 Clinical Departments and many more Subspecialty
Sections within these Departments. Excluding Adjunct Staff, there are 1110 males and
513 females (average age 51).

oral surgeons, psychologists, podiatrists and other licensed or certified health care
practitioners.
The Medical Staff Governance at Hartford Hospital includes four elected officers that serve

The Medical Executive Committee is the governing body of the Medical Staff and consists
of the officers of the Medical Staff, the Chiefs of the Departments of Surgery, Medicine,
Obstetrics and Gynecology, Psychiatry, and seven at-large Active Staff members elected
by the Medical Staff. The current membership includes:

The Medical Executive Committee has the primary oversight authority related to
professional activities and functions of the medical Staff and performance improvement
activities regarding the professional services provided by medical staff members with
clinical privileges.
There are approximately twenty seven other medical staff committees including the
Credentials Committee.
The Credentials Committee reviews the credentials of all applicants for medical staff
appointment, reappointment, and clinical privileges, conducts a thorough review of the
applications, interviews such applicants as may be necessary, and makes written reports
of its findings and recommendations to the Medical Executive Committee.
The Credentials Committee consists of at least seven members, including at least one
member each from the Departments of Medicine, Surgery, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and
Gynecology. Current membership includes:
