Informal “Tú” Commands
(You are telling one person that you are NOT addressing formally to do
something)
How to form an affirmative informal (tú) command:
1. Start with an upside down exclamation point
2. Go to the “Él, Ella, Usted” form of the verb
3. Close your command with a right side up exclamation point

Informal “Vosotros” Commands (You are telling a group of people that you are
NOT addressing formally to do something) (Remember that this is mainly used in
Spain since most Spanish speakers use “Ustedes” for both informal and formal
“You all”
How to form an affirmative informal (vosotros) command:
1. Start with an upside down exclamation point.
2. Go to the infinitive and remove the “r”.
3. Add a “d” in place of the “r”.
4. Close with a right side up exclamation point.

Formal “Usted” Commands (You are telling one person that you are NOT
addressing formally to do something)
How to form an affirmative formal (usted) command:
1. Start with an upside down exclamation point.
2. Go to the “yo” form.
3. Drop the “o” and add an “e” for AR verbs. Drop the “o” and add an “a” for er/ir
verbs.
4. Close with a right side up exclamation point.

Formal “Ustedes” Commands (only with speakers who follow Spain’s version of
speech is this formal. For the majority of Spanish Speakers this is both formal and
informal “you all” commands since most Spanish speakers do NOT use vosotros)
How to form an affirmative Ustedes command:
1. Start with an upside down exclamation point.
2. Follow the exact same rules as “usted” command but add an “n”
3. Close with a right side up exclamation point.
