Project Goals:
 to develop and demonstrate your understanding of plants including being able to:
o identify the general characteristics of plants
o classify plants
o explain how they obtain their nutrition using photosynthesis and cellular
respiration
o explain how they reproduce
Scenario:
You are a lonely plant looking to expand your social circle so you have decided to create a social
media profile to "get yourself out there".
Instructions:
 Please read the Unit 6 Notes, Introduction to Plants, Non-Vascular Plants and Seedless
Vascular Plants.
 Please pick a plant, any plant, to create a social media profile for (you may choose the
social media format…twitter account, facebook/fakebook, tinder, plenty of fish, linkedin,
or some other site).
 The profile must include:
o the plant's scientific and common name
o identification of the characteristics that make the plant a plant
o the plant's classification according to the classification chart provided below
o identification of the particular characteristics that lead to the plant's classification
(such as…I have _______________ [some characteristic] and therefore, I am a
vascular plant looking to meet up with other vascular plants…")

o explanation of how the plant survives/gains its nutrition using photosynthesis and
cellular respiration (i.e., explain the two processes and the cellular organelles
involved)

strategies and/or of any unique features/structures
o brief description of where this plant typically lives and what makes it happiest
(preferred growing conditions)
