Spring Fling School Poster Competition
The opportunity exists to design the poster that will support the advertisement of the Spring
Fling at local and national events in 2014, and we (Education Services and Spring Fling) would
like a young person from the region to create the winning design. Therefore, we are launching
the Spring Fling School poster competition and inviting young people to take part.
If young are considering entering this competition, you will need to make use of the specially
commissioned film to support you in the process of responding to the competition brief. The
film features local artist Alisa Black http://ailsablack.com/ responding to the brief that you will
also receive (below) and exemplifies the skills and techniques that she uses to create her design
and final piece of work.
This film clip can be found at:

Who can enter?
The competition is open to young people aged between 3-12 years of age, and this includes
young people in partnership early years environments.
What do you need to do?
You are invited to design and create a poster for Spring Fling that will support the
advertisement of the Spring Fling at local and national events in 2014. The poster can be
created using any techniques and materials, including paints, pens, photography, collage,
textiles and ICT but final version must be two-dimensional representations of these designs.
The theme you are asked to consider is what does Dumfries and Galloway mean to me when
bringing together your ideas for what you want your poster to eventually be. You should also
consider the idea of travelling around the region, meeting artists in their studios, finding out
about what they make, the landscape and environment, and some of the iconic features of the
region that contribute to its identity and how they make Dumfries and Galloway the region that
it is today.
How can we find out more about Spring Fling?
Spring Fling is Scotland’s premier visual art and craft open studio event that takes place every
year at the end of May across Dumfries and Galloway when around 90 professional artists and
makers open their studios to welcome the public who can find out more about what and where
they create
