Creating People Information

People – Personal Details

Providing personal details (but not too personal) on the people who work and study in your area can be very valuable. A lot of website visitors are looking for contact details for staff members.

We have introduced a new “Personal Details” content type that allows you to provide varying degrees of information on an individual staff member. If this template is used consistently, CMS support can assist you in automatically creating a staff list from the content added using this content type. There are a number of steps in order to get a full set of staff pages in place.

1 People section

You will first need to create a “People” section in your site structure:

1.

Go to your top level section drop down menu (yellow arrow)

2.

Choose “Add Section”

3.

Give the new section a name “People”

4.

Give the new section an output uri “people”

5.

Click on the “Page Layouts” tab

6.

Set the “Page Layout” and the “Inheritable Page Layout” for the www.ucc.ie and testinternet channels to “People List Page”

7.

Click “Add” to add the section.

2 Personal Details Content Type

The second step in creating comprehensive people information is to add the individual staff member information using the “Personal details” content type.

This can be automated to an extent but you need to contact cmssupport@ucc.ie

to arrange this and you will still need to know to what each of the fields in the content type relates in order to fully implement the personal details.

If you wish you can also do this manually:

1.

Go to the “Content” menu and choose “Add Content”.

2.

Select your People section (if you haven’t already done so you will need to create an individual section for each person)

3.

Choose “Personal details” from the list of available content types.

4.

Give the piece of content a Name, usually the person’s full name.

4 People Lists – by Overall Category

5 Personal Details and IRIS profiles

The personal details content type is not intended as a replacement for the IRIS profile. There is no need to copy all of the information from an IRIS profile to a personal details content item on a site. You can use the personal details content type to display a small subset of the information on an IRIS profile so that you can then build a people list that contains both academic staff and admin/support staff.

Currently we cannot automate the transfer of IRIS information into the personal details content type but this is planned for the near future.
