Classroom Management Plan
ED 518—Thornbrough
I. Mission
My plan for the year is for students to learn many new skills and gain a better
understanding of mathematics. In Algebra II we will be working with rational functions,
polynomials, logarithms, and much more. I plan to engage students with a variety of individual
and group activities and assignments.

Textbook Distribution/Collection - Each student will be assigned a textbook
according to the school policy. The student will be responsible for the book
during the school year and will be required to turn in the same textbook at the end
of the school year. The student is responsible for any damage done to the book,
so students should take care of it. Students must pay for any damage done to the
book, even if you let someone borrow it. If the textbook is lost, the student is
responsible for buying a new one.
D.
Bonus Points – An occasional bonus question will be on a test worth 5 points, and
if we have a review game bonus points will be awarded to the winning team. If a
student has left over hall passes from the nine weeks period, he or she may turn
them in for bonus points on his or her participation grade.
E.
Technology Integration – Students will be required to use a graphing calculator or
a computer for some lessons and/or homework. Clear instruction and directions
will be given so students understand the assignment and how to complete it.
Computer use will be monitored by the teacher.

III. Classroom Rules and Consequences
A.
Rules
1. Be in your seat and ready to work when the bell rings.
2. Be prepared for class each day by bringing your materials.
3. Be respectful of each other, the teacher, and classroom property and materials.
4. Raise your hand to be called on.
5. Follow all school policies.
B.
Consequences
1. Tardies will be counted, and if you are not ready to work when the bell rings,
then you will be last to leave the room.
2. If a student forgets to bring what he or she needs to class, he or she will not be
allowed to go get it and must work without it that day.
3. Failure to show respect will result in an extra homework assignment, and
office referral will be given for severe or excessive offenses.
4. Shouting out answers will result in not being able to talk for the rest of the
period.
5. One warning will be given for disruptive behavior, then an office referral will
be given for severe or excessive offenses.
Disclaimer: Each student is expected to follow school behavior policy. Failure to do so
will result in appropriate disciplinary action. The teacher reserves the right to decide
which appropriate disciplinary action will be given.

IV. Classroom Procedures
A.
Daily Routine
a. Entering/Leaving – Students will enter the classroom and find their assigned
seats. They will promptly get out their materials and begin working quietly on
the bellringer. When the bell rings at the end of the period, the teacher will
dismiss students.
b. Throwing Away Papers – Students may throw away trash after the lesson or
as they are entering or leaving the classroom. Students should not throw away
past homework assignments, tests, notes, bellringers, or classwork until after
the term.
c. Bell ringers – Each day there will be a short bellringer assignment at the
beginning of class. Students should find their seats and immediately start
working on the bellringer when they come to class. There will be a bellringer
check for completion at the end of every 9 weeks for a total of 100 points. If a
student is absent, he or she should copy the bellringer from another student for
the missed day.
d. Tardies – Tardies will be counted and disciplinary action will be taken
according to school policy. A tardy is considered not to be in your seat when
the bell rings. If a student is tardy, he or she will be the last to leave the
classroom after the period. Three or more tardies in a nine weeks will result
in office referral.
B.
Make-up Work Procedures
Callie Ellis 5
a. Number of days absent – A student may not be absent more than 10 full days,
according to school policy.
b. Excused/Unexcused – Excused and unexcused absences will be determined by
school policy. Whether a student can make up missed work will be
determined by whether the absence was excused or unexcused.
c. Amount of time to turn in assignments and how you will keep track of this
information – I will keep track of attendance in a spreadsheet and will note if
a student has not turned in an assignment or taken a test. If the student was
out for one day, he should complete his missed assignments within two days
of returning to school. If a student was out for several days in a row, the
teacher and student will agree upon a reasonable due date for missed work,
usually within a week of returning to school. I will note this due date in the
attendance spreadsheet.
d. Procedures for students to get and hand in assignments – I will have a folder
with absent students’ assignments for each period posted on the wall near the
front of the classroom. I will also have a calendar beside the folder and write
which section or activity we did in class each day. When students return to
school, they should check their period’s folder for their missed work and turn
it in by the proper due date. Absent students should ask a classmate for the
missed notes. It is the student’s responsibility to make arrangements with the
teacher about turning in missed work. If a student fails to make arrangements
with the teacher and does not turn in missed work by the correct due date, then
a zero will be given for the assignment.
Callie Ellis 6
C.
Late/Missed Assignments:
a. Number of assignments missed – Students are expected to complete and turn
in all assignments. No exceptions.
b. Amount of time to turn in assignments and how you will keep track of this
information – I will have an assignments spreadsheet, including each
assignment and its due date. I will make a note in the spreadsheet which
students have turned in an assignment and will mark the three day late period
for late assignments. If a student misses an assignment or has a late
assignment, they may turn it in for half credit up to three days after the due
date. If a student does not turn in the assignment within three days, a grade of
zero will be given.
c. Procedures for students to get and hand in assignments – Students should
check the folder at the front of the classroom for any missed assignments.
They should mark the assignment as late and turn it in to the teacher. Students
should not leave it on my desk unless told to do so.
D.
Homework:
a. Procedure for obtaining daily homework assignments – Some days I will walk
around the room to check homework and give an effort grade for completing
every problem. Other days, students will trade papers and grade each other’s
for accuracy. Still other days, I will take up the homework and grade for
accuracy.
b. Procedure for turning in graded and/or non-graded assignments – Students
should turn in their assignments (with their name on it) to the tray with their
Callie Ellis 7
period number on it at the front of the room. Students should not place
assignments on my desk unless told to do so.
c. Procedure for grading assignments in class and recording grades – Students
will grade each other’s assignments with a green pen that will be provided for
them. Students will calculate the grade out of 10 or 20 and sign their name on
the paper. I will collect the assignment and check and record the grades.
E.
Hall Passes – Students will be given 2 hall passes per 9 weeks. If they do not use
both passes in a 9 weeks, they will roll over to the next 9 weeks or they can be
turned in for extra points toward their participation grade. Legitimate
emergencies will not use one of the hall passes.
F.
Seating – Students will be given assigned seats that change every 9 weeks.
V. Crisis Plan
Students are expected to follow school rules and procedures during any crisis situation.
The emergency plans with maps are posted in the front of the classroom next to the door.
Students should act accordingly and follow all directions given by the teachers.
A.
Severe Weather/Fire – Students will be shown where to go during severe weather
or fire. A severe weather bell is one long continuous bell sometimes accompanied
by a weather siren, and the fire bell is a series of three short bells. Students are
expected to remain calm and follow directions given. Students should report
quickly and quietly to the correct location (either in the hallway for severe
weather or outside the building for fire). There will be no tolerance for
misbehavior.
Callie Ellis 8
B.
Lockdowns – In the event of a lockdown the classroom door will be locked and
no one (including students) will be permitted to leave or enter the room. I will
receive notification of this via a specifically designated intercom announcement.
Students should remain quiet and gather in the corner of the room away from
windows. There will be no tolerance for misbehavior.
C.
Fighting – No fighting will be tolerated. In the event of an altercation,
administration will be alerted to the classroom. Any students involved in a fight
will be sent directly to the office. The students involved will have their parents
notified immediately.
D.
Weapons – No weapons are allowed on campus. If a student is found with a
weapon, administration and the resource officer will be notified. The student will
be removed from the class to be sent directly to the office, and the student’s
parents will be notified. Local authorities will assist with these situations.
