Department of Sociology
To be eligible for a Department of Sociology Scholarship, students must:
1. Be a declared Sociology major.
2. Have a minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA (if transferring, must have a 3.5 from the school transferring
from. If a student at the University of Utah, must have a 3.5 GPA at the University)
3. Must be a Utah resident.
4. Must attend a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester during the time that the scholarship money
is dispersed (the scholarship will cover up to 18 credit hours per semester).
5. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Sociology Checklist:
Complete a Department of Sociology Scholarship Application
Attach a personal statement of no more than 500 words to this application concerning your background,
educational and career plans, and how receiving this scholarship would help you to pursue your degree in
Sociology.
Attach or have sent to the department of Sociology a copy of ALL college transcripts (for 15 or more hours
completed). You may NOT submit a DARS report or Summary of Transfer Credit to meet this requirement.
Transcripts can be unofficial.
Two letters of recommendation are required and should be sent directly to the department of your major. One
letter from an academic source is required. Both letters must be on official letterhead and signed or they will
not be considered.

BEHS 301 by 4:00PM, JANUARY 23rd, 2015.

I am selected as a scholarship recipient and I change my major to one that is no longer in the Department
of Sociology during the scholarship term, my scholarship will be terminated.
