CLASS TITLE: SENIOR REHABILITATION SPECIALIST - BLIND - SES
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is independent professional work providing direct rehabilitation services to visually impaired and
multi-handicapped visually impaired individuals leading to maximum independent functioning and/or
employment, and providing technical assistance to Rehabilitation Specialists - Blind.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Conducts in-depth interviews with a diverse group of blind and visually impaired clients to
determine their eligibility for rehabilitation services and the feasibility for achieving a vocational
independent living or educational goal.
Determines existing problems and evaluates individual needs for achieving independence in
daily living, in acquiring communication skills and/or obtaining suitable employment.
Reviews the medical, social and psychological records of visually impaired clients, uses those
records to document handicaps and potential and to plan appropriate rehabilitation services
with minimal supervision.
Provides guidance and counseling in career planning to eligible clients requiring complex
rehabilitation strategies leading to employment.
Authorizes and coordinates the purchase of medical, psychological and other special services
required in the rehabilitation process.
Assists rehabilitation specialists with the determination of rehabilitation strategies.
Provides services to family members.
Instructs clients in the use of technical aids and equipment.
Provides in-service training for division staff and for other agencies' staff.
Develops community contacts for employment opportunities, similar benefits and socialization.
Develops, coordinates and implements special projects.
Reviews and maintains complex client records.
Manages case load budget under direction of the district manager.
Performs related work as required.

Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing and analyzing data.

Knowledge of technological devices for visually impaired persons.
