Opening Statement

Become an active member of the architectural community, assisting in development, maintenance and governance of the enterprise architecture across the organisation, with a specific focus on infrastructure and IT services .

Main purpose of role

The role of the Technical Design Authority (TDA) is to support business and IT Strategy in achieving a coherent technical approach across programme, business change and BAU activity.

The key objectives of this role are to:

Define, Maintain and develop the UKHO architecture framework for UKHO infrastructure.

Provide technical guidance and leadership to the corporate portfolio and BAU operational teams.

Present and communicate the infrastructure architectural vision, strategy and roadmaps to wider technical (and non-technical) audiences.

Define standards, principles and policies for the design, delivery and on-going lifecycle management of business systems.

Review, distil and own the infrastructure capabilities and non-functional requirements of all projects.

Understand and assist in the creation of infrastructure designs and provide appropriate cost / benefit analysis of the use of alternative technologies.

Work with wider Architecture teams to provide a consensus based enterprise solution that is scalable, adaptable and in synchronisation with ever changing business needs. You will also support the operation of the Architectural Review Board.

Tasks, expectations/deliverables

You will need to maintain and develop the Architecture Building Blocks for infrastructure and IT services.

Have technical oversight of all project and change activity.

Develop and implement the Infrastructure Strategy/ Roadmap.

Recruit, Line Manage and mentor/coach the Infrastructure Architects.

Attend Review / Programme/ Project Boards.

Skills & Experience

Advanced knowledge of the following technical skills/competences

:

Networking principles and best practice, client/server principles and best practice, Microsoft Server (operating systems and hardware), MS Exchange, Internet and external communications technologies, Virtualisation solutions (VMware), networking technologies, IT Security technologies, System Management Tools (i.e. SCOM, Altiris, SolarWinds, etc.).

Have experience of working with Programme Managers to deliver corporate architectural roadmaps and implementation plans.

Experience of assessing and managing technical and corporate risk.

Experience of managing an infrastructure framework and governing solution architecture deliverables and artefacts.

Experience of managing the integration of third party COTS and third party developed solutions into an existing infrastructure.

Have strong hands-on implementation skills in contemporary technologies and methodologies, comfortable working at the detailed level in complex technical environments.

Model processes, systems, data and infrastructure in Archimate and or other modelling language using Sparx Enterprise Architect.

Experience of implementing and managing an architectural framework such as TOGAF, MODAF or Zachman.

Knowledge of project \ programme delivery methodologies e.g. PRINCE 2 \ MSP.

Other information

This post is a non-reserved post and is open for full time and part-time job share. The role will require SC clearance, and is a permanent role.
