Antenatal Exercise Class
Info: Antenatal exercise group for women during
pregnancy from 12 weeks
Venue: Physiotherapy Department
Time & Date: 4 sessions, every Tuesday 4-5pm
Referral: Treating physiotherapist or attendance at
antenatal education class
Post Natal Exercise Group
Info: 4 week exercise group for general
strengthening (6 weeks after normal delivery and 12
weeks after caesarean section)
Venue: Physiotherapy department
Times & Date: Every Tuesday 1:30-2:30pm

Women and Men’s Health specialist
physiotherapy team.

We are a team of specialist physiotherapists

during and after pregnancy with
musculoskeletal problems and treatment of
women & men who are experiencing problems
with pelvic floor dysfunction.

Services we Offer:
What is Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (PFD)?
Your pelvic floor is a complex set of muscles
that support the organs in your pelvis and
lower back, help you maintain continence and
contribute to sexual function. PFD is the term
given to conditions affecting one of the three
systems in the pelvis

to be assessed you can opt out at any point
without your treatment being affected.
Everyone is entitled to a chaperone of the
same gender during your examination this will
be discussed with you at your initial
appointment. You are welcome to bring
someone with you if you wish however they will
not be classed as a chaperone.
If you are concerned about any aspect of the
assessment please call us before-hand, or
discuss with your clinician on the day. You
may need to be seen on more than one
occasion and follow up appointments may vary
between 2 -6 weeks apart.
What to bring
There is nothing specific that you need to bring
with you, unless you are attending one of our
exercise classes whereby comfortable clothes,
trainer type shoes and some water would be
useful.
How to get referred
What to expect
In order to provide effective assessment and
treatment you may be asked to undress for the
physiotherapist to view how you are moving
and hands on treatment may be proposed if
appropriate.
If you have a bladder or bowel problem, part of
the assessment may include an assessment of
your pelvic floor muscles which involves an
internal vaginal and or anal examination. Any
procedure carried out will be explained in full to
you at the appointment and if you do not want
If you are experiencing any of the problems
listed, you can speak to your midwife, urogynaecologist, urologist, colorectal consultant
or specialist nurse or other health care
professional, who can then refer you to the
women’s & men’s health physiotherapy team.
Additional Information:
We work very closely with the Adult Integrated
Continence Service, uro-gynaecology,
colorectal services and urology services.
