Kevin Hibbard, Rob Kilpatrick, Margaret Mitchell, Meg Pearson, Clint Samples, Kevin Shunn
The meeting was called to order at 11:00.
Minutes for November 18 were approved with the addition of Steve Goodson and Rob Kilpatrick, and the
deletion of Rob Snyder as attendees.
Pauline: set upper division course caps based on historic fill rates.
Agenda:

Updated Wish List was distributed by email. Report errors/changes to Pauline.

New news on summer – calculator available (includes overage). NOT pay as you go. Try to stay in the
black per department, but COAH may be able to help. Meg said that English is hurt by eCore ENG 1101
& 1102, and the eCore classes are not as strong as the department’s. English will experiment with
online offerings of these and upper division courses. Will need to be well publicized. eCore listings are
now separated from UWG courses. GRAs might be available to help those creating new online courses.
Let Pauline know if needed. CTL offers Quality Matters training – experiences were mixed.

Summer Planning – Elizabeth handed out a spreadsheet of departments’ intended offerings.

Facilities Requests – See email from Fred re: deadlines and procedures. Departmental EOY requests
due end of January. Institutional requests are due by end of December. For COAH EOY requests, keep
an ongoing list.

Assessment Heads Up-‘Curriculum Maps’-sample – SACS update results are expected this week. Old
SACS assessment system is going away. There is conflicting info regarding using it for Core. Keep data
in a spreadsheet. Weave is now called Academic Affect. Chairs will be contacted by Reed Blalock with
info to create Curriculum Maps. Pauline urged Reed to offer a workshop for chairs; he promised to
reach out to chairs. A sample handout was distributed. History assessment leaders are meeting with
Reed next week. There are two groups: University Assessmant Team (Cathy Jenks and Reed), and
Academic Programs Assessment Council (includes Pauline).

Branding subcommittee Update – no update. Kevin Shunn said the sumcommittee is meeting next
week. (Meg and the Kevins)

SOTA name sub committee Update – pending the next meeting. Pauline found original mission of SOTA
submitted by Randy, and suggested we look at it for possible tweaking.

SOTA activities – Hank Williams tribute night in Newnan (Jan. 23) will be the start of an annual series.
COAH will have some comp tickets available for guests we want to invite. Chad requested SOTA
calendar items for spring. Some Visiting Artist grants have been received. Chad would like to combine
two existing SOTA committees (the second was formed to decide how to use the Stone Visiting Artist
funds). Submit possible names to Chad, or use existing SOTA reps. Film camp is being expanded for
next summer. There is great interest in having Art Talks in Newnan, so there will be a Visual Art
continuing ed class consisting of four 90-minute lectures. Presenters receive $300 each. There is also
some interest in opera. Theatre will perform April 29 in Newnan: “The Big Bad Musical” (Big Bad Wolf
goes on trial). A Minority Fellowship (instructor salary with light teaching load) concept has been
around for a long time but hasn’t gained traction. Time might be right to bring it up again. Put it on Bill
Norris’ list of items that might resonate with a donor to fund an Endowed Minority Chair.

Teacher Ed Updates (Elizabeth) – Elizabeth emailed minutes from meeting of Teacher Ed program
leaders/coordinators. Larger vision is to better prepare COAH grads for teaching.

Orientation on Dec 4th (Friday) & Department Fair – Confirmation that everyone understands the
event. Elizabeth will send out schedule. Pauline encouraged participation in Activities Fair. Theatre has
had good recruiting results. RSVP Stefanie Kasven.

Scheduling of rooms (Elizabeth) – Elizabeth will forward info. Is there interest in getting this system
open in time to work on this the last work days of December?

Offices can forward calls to COAH through Dec 22 but please let Arielle/Pauline know if this is
happening

SAFBA – Proposal due date has been announced. Pauline discussed this system with President
Marrero. It’s not a great system, but the students are in charge. Pauline: Would it be helpful to educate
the committee regarding the values that their funding represents? Empower them to do public good.
This idea was received positively. Pauline will check with Chris Geiger to see if it’s possible, and reach
out to possible presenters.

COAH KUDOS – $75,000 grant received for the Oldenburg program. Pauline will update Kudos portion
of COAH website monthly. Send items to her. Art had a recent graduate die tragically. He was a very
successful artist. His wife is donating his studio materials to our Art students. Next iron pour may be
dedicated to him. Music and Theatre events were announced.

No mtg on DEC 16.

COAH Faculty and Staff party Wednesday, December 9, 11:00-2:00.

REMINDER: Post-Tenure Review due DEC 4

Final discussion about enrollments, cancelling courses and redirecting funds to the core. Also part-time
funding.
The meeting adjourned at 12:10.
Respectfully submitted,
Kevin Hibbard
