For those cycling off to Maison la Varenne, you’ve got about a half hour ride. Go in direction of
Rouxmesnil-Bouteille via Rue du General Chanzy on D154. You might have to ask for directions to
get onto the right route. Then follow signs to Arques-la-Bataille. When you reach a fork with a
statue of Jesus in the middle, take a left on D54 with a road sign “Base de Loisirs de la Varenne”. A
few minutes later, spot a big publicity sign on a house on the right “E.Leclerc” and take a right after it
which brings you onto l’Avenue Verte (cycle path). You will ride by a lake and spot the hostel
entrance on the right after the avenue of trees.

FRENEUSE / PARIS
(82km, 51m)
Go back on your steps and cross La Seine back to the north side. Then, turn right towards Tripleval,
La Roche Guyon, etc. reaching the D913. Spot the incredible chalk cliffs and troglodyte houses. Stick
to the D913 until Les Mureaux and take the D190, still north of La Seine. After Treil-sur-Seine
there’s a cycle path that isn’t necessarily that obvious to spot. Then cross over the river at Poissy,
take the D308 through Maisons-Lafitte and carry on to Bezons. The roads turns in to D311 for a
short time, carry on to D992 then D908. Cross La Seine on the D392/D992. You’re in full suburbia,
hang on! There are now a few ways to get to the hostel in the 19th Arrondissement (division of Paris).
You need to cross La Seine again towards Clichy-Levallois and head in the direction of le SacréCoeur (cathedral on a mound). It may take some time to get your head around traffic, cobblestones
and lack of trees; we’re all in it together. There are maps around town for the vélib’ (shared bikes)
that are useful. The Métro stations you’ll be heading in the direction of are Pigalle, Anvers, BarbèsRochechouart, La Chappelle, and the hostel is on the square 11 Place Colonel Fabien, near Métro
Colonel Fabien. Congratulations!
