CURRENT PROJECTS:
Understanding the Context for Piracy in Somalia
This paper with Nikos Passas, based on research from my dissertation, examines the context for the unique form of
contemporary piracy emanating from Somalia. Using global anomie theory and dysnomie as an analytic framework the
paper provides some insight into the origin and rise of Somali piracy.
Global Crimes and Economic Development
This chapter with Nikos Passas is being written for Oxford University Press for their Oxford Handbooks Online in
Criminology and Criminal Justice series. The focus of the chapter is to investigate the nexus between economic
development and crime. The chapter looks at the asymmetries in economic development and their effect on crimes.
Criminologists & their Contexts
This is an oral history project that examines the context for theories of contemporary criminologists. The aim is to
create a new teaching tool for students of criminology, to better understand theories and the craft of this discipline.
