1. Sponsor Bishop Bill and others sleeping rough for Vinnies
Bishop Bill, Director of CatholicCare, Lisa Short and Director of Catholic Schools,
Ray Collins will all be spending the night of 19 June ‘sleeping rough’ in order to
raise money for the homeless. Please donate to this excellent cause and support
Bishop Bill, Lisa, Sean and Ray in their generous efforts.
NOTE: It is possible to donate “offline” for those without internet access. Post a
cheque or money order payable to St Vincent de Paul Society NSW to the following

2. Download “Pints with a Purpose” talks
Did you know you can listen to the "Pints with a Purpose" talks online? "Pints" is a
popular initiative of the Diocesan Council for Ministry with Young People (DCMYP)
that sees guest speakers discuss issues around faith in an informal setting at The
Kent Hotel, Hamilton. You can listen to the three most recent talks at
http://mn.catholic.org.au/pints which also contains links and further information. Be
inspired, come along and listen live to the next "Pints with a Purpose" discussion!

3. Register NOW for youth retreat – “Be, Grow, Show”
The diocesan youth retreat “Be, Grow, Show 2014” is less than one month away!
The DCMYP is very excited to announce the facilitators for this year’s retreat, Brian
and Sue Lacey from St Catherine's Catholic College, Singleton. The retreat
promises to be a fun experience and a great opportunity to meet other young
people who are interested in exploring their faith.

The retreat will be held at Camp Elim, Forster, 27 – 29 June and costs $100 per
person. Transport will be provided. Registrations close on 13 June. Visit the

1. Talk by Mark Isaacs, author of “The Undesirables - Inside Nauru” will be held on Thursday
19 June beginning at 5:30 PM at Lovett Gallery, Laman St, Cooks Hill. A free event, part of
Newcastle Refugee Week events.
2. Welcome to Newcastle Morning Tea will be held on Friday 20 June beginning at 10:30 AM
at Newcastle City Branch Library, Laman St, Cooks Hill. A warm, welcoming morning tea
for refugees in the City of Newcastle. A free event, part of Newcastle Refugee Week.
3. Voices for Justice 2014 will be held on Saturday 21 June in Canberra. Voices for Justice is
your opportunity to gather with like-minded Christians across Australia and raise your
voice to influence government policy for the benefit of the world’s poorest people. Visit

4. Eucharistic Adoration on the Feast of Corpus Christi will be held on Sunday 22 June
beginning at 8:30 AM at Corpus Christi Church, Platt St, Waratah. Following Pope Francis'
call last year for a world-wide hour of Eucharistic Adoration on The Feast of Corpus Christi,
adoration will be held at Corpus Christi Church Waratah from 8.30am (following the
7.30am Mass). The Adoration concludes with Prayer & Benediction. Holy Trinity Parish
invites you to join us in this prayer.
5. Mass in honour of Saint Josemaría Escrivá, Founder of Opus Dei will be held on Monday 23
June beginning at 7:30 PM at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 841 Hunter Street, Newcastle West.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation will be available from 7:00pm. Supper afterwards next to
Cathedral, please bring a plate to share.
6. Workshops on the Future of the Singleton Convent of Mercy will be held on Wednesday 25
June beginning at 3:00 PM at Singleton Mercy Convent, 30 Queen St, Singleton. You, your
friends and colleagues, are invited to attend a workshop on the future of the Convent.
Other dates include Sat 28 June (10am - 1pm at Singleton), Tues 1 July (3pm - 6pm at
Singleton) and Wed 2 July (3pm - 6pm at New Lambton, Wests Green House Tauranga St,
behind car park).
7. "Be, Grow, Show" 2014 Youth Retreat will be held on Friday 27 June at Camp Elim, The
Lakes Way, Forster. The retreat costs $100 per person. Transport will be provided.

8. "Three At Sea" Art Exhibition Opening will be held on Saturday 05 July beginning at 4:00PM
at Four Point Gallery, 681 Hunter St, Newcastle West. Art exhibition by Ann Sutherland,
Ewen Sutherland and Alex Sutherland. Percentage of sales will be donated to Penola

9. Port of Newcastle Blessing and Sea Sunday Service will be held on Sunday 13 July
beginning at 6:00 PM at Christ Church Cathedral, Church St, Newcastle. You are invited

10. 17th Annual Special Needs Mass will be held on Tuesday 29 July beginning at 7:00 PM at
St Patrick’s Catholic Church, Lochinvar. All are welcome to attend the 17th Annual
