Specimens used in this study
Early Blancan NALMA specimens from the San Miguel de Allende Basin, Guanajuato, Mexico,
examined for this study include MPGJ 1946, locality GTO 47 Arroyo Belen from one female individual
consisting of 13 isolated osteoderms; two sets of articulated osteoderms, three each; one set of 11
osteoderms from the first two rows, left side of carapace; large set of approximately 60 articulated
osteoderms, left side of carapace; MPGJ 2042, locality GTO 82, Arroyo El Ingadazo, partial carapace of
adult in two sections, isolated osteoderms, teeth, incomplete fragments of pelvis, hyoid; MPGJ 2745 and
MPGJ 398, single osteoderms each from different individuals.
New specimens of Glyptotherium from the 111 Ranch beds (Gila Conglomerate, Late Blancan

to Late Blancan-Irvingtonian NALMA include field number GSM 2012-104, 10/27/2012 (Gensler
microsite), osteoderms and one jaw fragment.
Irvingtonian NALMA specimen from the San Miguel de Allende Basin, Guanajuato, Mexico,
examined for this study includes: MPGH 2043, locality GTO 78 Arroyo Emilio-Gliptodon, partial
carapace in several sections and incomplete lower jaw of a baby.
Other specimens directly or indirectly discussed herein were included in Gillette and Ray (1981)
or represent collections of specimens from other faunas, as indicated in citations.
Small measurements were taken with Helios dial calipers, larger measurements with cloth or steel
ruler, sometimes with the aid of dividers. Photographs were taken with Nikon E8700 Digital Camera,
Nikon D5100 Digital Single Lens Reflex Camera, and Canon Power Shot SX 40 HS. Figures were
prepared and labeled in Adobe Photoshop, with slight modification to enhance detail and layout as
needed.
