To assist the Sustainability Officer in undertaking several reviews of ZSL’s
suppliers in line with our current sustainability commitments; notably our
Palm Oil Policy and Supplier Code of Conduct.
1. Review ZSL suppliers’ use of sustainable palm oil, focusing on 3 high
risk areas; foods in retail and catering, cleaning products and animal
feed.
 Revisiting commitments made by suppliers in previous reviews
and ensuring these are still valid and are being implemented.
 Researching suppliers to identify their palm oil commitments
and current activities – this will include both desk based
research and directly contacting suppliers.
 Collating this information on a supplier database.
2. Review ZSLs top 10 suppliers by spend reviewing their sustainability
and quality standards. This work will include the following tasks:
 Help populate a supplier database spreadsheet.
 Gather and collate feedback on ZSL’s Supplier Code of Conduct
and input onto a database spreadsheet.
 Review information suppliers have submitted.
3. Any other activities as agreed with line manager
 Familiarity with the palm oil industry, including knowledge of the
criteria and principles for certified sustainable palm oil.
 Knowledge of the principles of sustainable procurement would be
beneficial.
 Self-motivation, attention to detail and excellent research skills.
 A strong understanding of the practicalities of implementing
sustainability policies within an organisation, in particular related
to sustainable palm oil and sustainable procurement.
 Interaction with staff across the Society including Conservation
Programmes, Procurement and Sustainability.
 Experience of driving practical change within a third sector
organisation with national and global impact.
 In engaging with suppliers and other stakeholders
 In assessing sustainability policies of suppliers and other
stakeholders
