Description of Business Environment:
Lockheed Martin UK – Strategic Systems (LMUK SS) is the single contractor providing
specialist Waterfront In-Service Support to the Royal Navy's Trident Strategic Weapon
System (SWS). The company plays a supporting role in the operational readiness of the
nation's nuclear deterrent on board the Vanguard class Trident Submarines and
provides the Ministry of Defence (MoD) with safe, efficient and responsive support, while
meeting programme and cost targets.
LMUK SS, as part of the ABL Alliance with AWE and Babcock, are now responsible for
the management of operations at the Royal Naval Armaments Depot Coulport
(RNAD(C)). The MOD retains ownership and control of the site. The Information
Systems Engineer will be responsible for maintaining IT systems that support the Trident
Training Facility (TTF) outputs. Due to MoD requirements, successful candidates will be
required to undergo a security clearance check. You must be able to travel throughout
the UK and occasionally the US.
Specific Job Description:
Responsible for maintaining the IT systems that support the Trident Training Facility.
Prior experience of administering Microsoft Windows based systems and maintaining
network infrastructure. Possess great organisational skills to maintain software
inventories and system documentation. Past experience of administering IT systems
accredited by MoD is desired but not essential.
Required Skills:
 Report to the Technology Services department but work as a fully integrated
member of the TTF Trainer Support Team supporting their mission success.
 Administer and maintain multiple IT systems hosted within the TTF in accordance
with approved system accreditation documentation and MoD security
publications.
 Administration duties include account creation, system patching and backups
whilst maintaining the confidentiality, integrity and availability of all systems.
 Manage and maintain network infrastructure within the building ensuring it
remains fully compliant with MoD design authority.







Act as focal point for managing any changes to server/network infrastructure.
Maintain inventory registers for software and hardware registers to ensure system
integrity including any configuration control requirements.
Maintain defect/installation logs for all TTF IT systems submitting Trouble and
Failure reports as required.
Ensure all Electronic Documentation is installed correctly, verified and maintained
to the latest change state.
Provide support to SWPT authorised organisations during the conduct of updates
to Simulator Suites, SWSMIN and EWL.
Shift working may be required covering maintenance and diagnostics of assigned
IT in support of the RN Training Programme.
Travel to other UK sites and related USA facilities may be required as part of role.
Required Skills:
 Experience of administering and maintaining Microsoft Windows Server/Client
based IT systems.
 Experience of managing and maintaining network infrastructure.
 Able to work autonomously to deliver results while maintaining strict compliance
to security limitations and published quality processes.
 Excellent organisational and workload management skills.
 Strong communication, verbal and presentation skills.
 Possess first rate customer facing skills.
 Have evidence of ability and willingness to adapt within a dynamic environment.
 Capable of building and maintaining customer relationships and the confidence to
debate technical issues with both Customer and Accreditor.
Desirable Skills:
 Past experience and knowledge of working within an environment managing
Polaris Sales Agreement (PSA) data and its correct handling.
 Experience in Training environments and SWS equipment.
 Knowledge of FOST Quality Processes.
Standard Job Description:
Maintains smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with
network administrators. Duties may include setting up administrator and service
accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance, installing
system wide software and allocate mass storage space. Interacts with users and
evaluates vendor products. Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and
software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors
policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.
Typical Minimum Education & Experience:
Qualified to HNC level in a related discipline or equivalent experience/combined
education.
