Comparing 3 digit numbers
TEACH the symbols-students were exposed to
these in 1st grade, but will need reteaching
Use base ten blocks and place value mats to
compare two 3-digit numbers. Have students
write the numbers, show the expanded form and
compare using the appropriate symbols. <, >, or
equal. Important to expose students to equal
digits!
Have students identify numbers greater than a
given number and discuss why it is greater.
(place-value snakes or dice could be used)
good small group activity
Use place-value snakes to play the game TOP IT.
Use cards to play the same game to change it
up.
