DISCUSSION
OUTCOME/ACTION
Amendments:
Owens-Delong was present.
Item #6: 2nd, Carried unanimously
Student appeals were directed to the wrong committee; therefore decisions
on student appeals (items 8-12) are null and void.
Industry standard. Frees up classroom space and better utilizes faculty
resources.
2nd. Carried
Unanimously.
Rationale: Not enough time to cover course objectives with a 1 hour course.
Implementation of Strengths assessment is being added to course objectives,
and exploration of this material will take more time than a 1 hour course
allows. More emphasis on setting tone for academic/spiritual development
aspects at SCU.
2nd. Carried
unanimously with
added clarification.
New prefix needs to be assigned. Would fall under director of General
Education. (Recommend: UNIV 1XX3) First-year coordinator will oversee
this. Title: Strategies for Student Success.
Affects on academic programs: Would reduce number of open electives in
programs. Would mostly affect music students and religion BA students who
already have few open electives.
Clarify in the course description that this course is for all traditional students.
Learning outcomes need to be more measurable, but these do not go in the
catalog. They will be included in the syllabus. Assigned to Shelley and group
working on 1st year experience.
