Ellen Liu
“Out of the Ordinary”
Ellen Liu, age 22, prides herself from being far from ordinary and insists that she never wants to
be normal. Her unique personality has given her friends and family someone who isn’t afraid to be
different and who embraces life in all different ways.
Ellen is a student at Purdue University and is majoring in Retail Management. Although she
resides in West Lafayette, Indiana, she was raised in Taiwan for 16 years of her life. Her home is now in
Naperville, Illinois.
Her passions lie in her hobbies of dancing and photography. Her love for photography gives her
the ability to capture every moment and have it for the rest of her life. Her pictures are a way for her to
capture the way she sees life and what she believes represents her. Her desire to always look at life and
problems in the different perspective has made her unique character. Her character has given her the
personality to hold on to great relationships with friends and people all around the world.
Ellen holds a tight bond with all 3 members of her family. The tightest bond is with her mother
which she never fails to talk to every day. She is thankful everyday for having a family plan on her cell
phone service. Her most special relationship is with her younger brother Louis. Her brother serves as an
escape to share her accomplishments as well as her problems. Although young, Ellen believes he gives
the best insight on life. Luckily for Ellen, she possesses two different social networks. She keeps in
contact with all of her childhood friends in Taiwan as well as having her own group of friends in the
states. She considers herself to be extremely lucky to have the diversity of friends she does because she
feels the different cultures has balanced her life she lives today. The respect that her friends show her
as well as the care they give to her are extremely rewarding to her.
Although Ellen has not made a powerful contribution to society yet, she feels her contribution in
life is given towards the hard work of her family. Coming from a Chinese culture, she values her family
and the close family links. She was brought up that her family was a team, and they were collectively
responsible for the welfare and actions of its members. She does hope that in the near future that she
will have the power and the social status to contribute to society in a large way.
Like any soon-to-be graduating senior, Ellen is unsure of the career path she will take upon
graduation. Her dreams have been to be visual merchandiser for a large fashion store. She enjoys using
her creativity and her visual skills on merchandise that attracts a customer to come into the store. As
any other college student, Ellen isn’t exactly the most financially stable, but she doesn’t believe money is
needed to have fun. She enjoys of thinking creative ideas to have fun and make memories without
spending a penny.
Ellen proves that she is a unique individual so far in the 22 years of her life and she will continue
on living with the values that were instilled in her. She has great aspirations that she is hoping to
succeed in the years ahead of her with hopes of making something great of herself in society.
