The Susquehanna River Lab
Rivers can be found all over the world. A river is a moving channelized body
of water. The Susquehanna River is the longest river on the American east coast.
This river flows through 3 different states. The source, or beginning, of the
Susquehanna River is in New York State near Cooper’s Town and the mouth, or end,
of the river the Atlantic Ocean at the Chesapeake Bay. 7.2x1011 gallons of water flow
into the Chesapeake Bay every day from the Susquehanna River. This water comes
from many sources such as rain or other smaller rivers called tributaries. Several
tributaries of the Susquehanna include the Chenango River, Mahanoy Creek,
Swatara Creek, and many other smaller brooks and streams. The path of the river
makes a zig-zag shape with curves and bends which scientists call meanders.
