Bairo Pite Hospital – We need your support to continue to provide care
Bairo Pite Hospital sees support for the inpatient beds and the nurses as the first priorities amongst many.
Sponsor a Bed
There are 55 inpatient beds at Bairo Pite Hospital. The total cost of care for each patient in each bed is
approximately $10 per day ($300 per month). This covers medication, medical supplies, medical staff,
pathology, utilities, food and laundry.

For 6 months or more support the bed can be given a name by you (eg the Jones Family bed) and this
name will be placed on the wall above the bed for the duration of your support of that bed. We will contact
you to discuss naming the bed.
Sponsor a Nurse
Our Nurses work 12 hour shifts. They are paid almost exactly the same amount each month as the cost of
sponsoring a bed-$300 a month. They usually have 5 or 6 children at home and are often the sole source
of income for their family. They are dedicated and have some superb skills. They are the ones who insert
the IV cannulae and set up the IV drips. They are the ones who administer all the medications and who
ensure that the patients get the care that they need.

Bairo Pite Hospital does not have DGR status in its own right and relies on AFAP’s DGR status endorsed by the ATO, therefore
any donations to support the activities of Bairo Pite Hospital must be made through AFAP in order to be tax deductible. Whilst
AFAP will endeavour to comply with the wishes of the donor, AFAP retains a discretion at all times whether or not to distribute
donated property(money or otherwise) in accordance with the preference expressed by the donor. AFAP allows donated

There is much more to the Bairo Pite story
In addition to the 55 in-patient beds, BPH runs an extensive out-patient consulting service
which sees between 200 and 300 people a day, a busy ante natal care unit, a labour ward where
over 100 babies per month are delivered, an outpatient supervised treatment of tuberculosis clinic,
HIV diagnosis, counselling and treatment, daily mobile clinics to outlying communities, a dental
clinic and the training of community birth attendants and village health workers.
