NATIONAL RESTAURANT CHAIN TO OPEN AT HISTORIC LLANDUDNO
HOTEL SITE
The successful redevelopment of the historic Tudno Castle Hotel in the heart of Llandudno
has received a significant boost with the news that a major national restaurant chain will open
on site.
The owners of the national chain are currently finalising legal details to lease a 3,500 sq ft
retail unit on the lower ground floor of the new Tudno Point development.
Opus North, the leading northern property developer and investor, is developing Tudno Point
with local landowners Mostyn Estates. This flagship retail and leisure scheme in Mostyn
Broadway and Vaughan Street feature a new 63-bed hotel, three restaurant units and two
retail units.
Tudno Point will link the town centre to the successful 160,000 sq ft Parc Llandudno, where
tenants include Debenhams, Next and Laura Ashley, and provide a strong focal point in the
heart of the historic Welsh town.
Andrew Duncan, director of the West Yorkshire-based Opus North, commented: “We are
absolutely delighted to be welcoming a national brand to Tudno Point. We will be
announcing their identity shortly, once the lease is signed. This a resounding endorsement of
our development and a major boost to the local economy and to Llandudno’s retail and
leisure offering.
“In the meantime, we are making sure the historic building is safe by shoring it up and we are
also finalising details with a main contractor. All being well, with our new tenant signed up,
work is scheduled to start on site in March next year.
“The once-proud Tudno Castle Hotel has fallen into disrepair and has not been occupied for
several years. The hotel’s listed façade, however, remains extremely impressive and will
form an integral part of our development.
“This development will feature a 63-bed Premier Inn, together with three new-build
restaurants, including Prezzo and the national chain. We have had strong interest in the final
restaurant unit of 4,500 sq ft.
“With a 15-month building programme, the development is scheduled to be completed by the
summer of 2017. This is a very important regeneration project for Llandudno and, both
during construction and when finished, will provide a significant boost to the local
economy,” added Mr Duncan.
Llandudno is Wales’s largest and most popular seaside resort, which has maintained its
unique Victorian and Edwardian elegance. Mostyn Estates are the principal local landowners,
having developed much of the town in the mid-19th century.
Llandudno is spectacularly located on the Irish Sea, with the Snowdonia mountain range in
the distance. It is one of the most beautiful coastal resorts in the UK. The unspoiled town is
popular all year round with business visitors and tourists alike.
The agents for the development are Leeds-based property consultants WSB
