School-Parent Compact
Sugar Hill Elementary School
2013-2014
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The staff of Sugar Hill Elementary , students participating in the Title I, Part A program, and their families, agree that this
compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved
student academic achievement as well as describes how school and parents will build and develop a partnership that
will help children achieve the State’s high standards.
To understand how working together can benefit your child, it is first important to understand our district’s and school’s
goals for student academic achievement.
Hall County School System Goals:
All students will reach high standards, at a minimum attaining proficiency or better in reading/language arts, science,
social studies, and mathematics.
-In the elementary schools, 90 percent of students will read at or above grade level by the end of the third grade; 90
percent of elementary students will meet or exceed state standards in mathematics.
-In the middle schools, 90 percent of students will meet or exceed state standards in reading and mathematics; 50
percent of middle school students will enter high school with Carnegie Unit credit.
-In the high schools, 90 percent of students will graduate (traditional diploma, special education diploma, or GED with
enrollment in a post-secondary institution); 50 percent of high school students will graduate with post-secondary credit
earned.
Sugar Hill Elementary School Goals:
1. To promote wellness and fitness for all students.
2. To provide higher order thinking opportunities and exposure to consuming and producing with technology on a
regular basis.
3. To provide science and social studies instruction to all students daily.
4. To help each child grow at least one year according to DRA Reading Levels every academic school year.
5. To help each child learn basic math facts appropriate to each grade level.
6. To promote parent involvement and community partnerships.
7. To increase writing skills through weekly writing conferences between teacher and student.
To help your child meet the district and school goals, the school, you, and your child will work together to:
School Responsibilities:
Sugar Hill Elementary will:
1. Provide high quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that
enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards by:

Teachers will provide meaningful and appropriate instruction daily. Teachers will communicate high
expectations and will see to it that students have the support that they need to meet them.
2. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be
discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.
Parent conferences will be available daily from 2:30-3:15 upon request as well as during teacher planning times
upon request. Other opportunities for parents to visit and discuss their child are Open House, Curriculum Night, and RTI
meeting dates that occur once a month.
3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.
Parents will receive frequent reports such as graded work, reading level updates, and basic math fact proficiency
reports in the Monday Folder.
4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff.
Parents have access to staff daily from 2:30-3:15 and during planning upon request.
5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class, and to observe classroom
activities as follows:
Parents may volunteer within the school in a variety of ways. Many parents visit classrooms to read with
children or to assist with preparing instructional supplies. Parents also volunteer to work in the library and to
assist in the main office. To volunteer, parents need only to call the school or drop by to see the principal or
assistant principal.
Parent Responsibilities:
We, as parents, will:
 Support my child and help him/her meet school requirements for academics.
 Maintain open communication with the school about my child’s academic progress.
 Practice basic math facts with my child at home and read with my child on a regular basis at home.
 Be sure my child attends school regularly and on time.
Student Responsibilities:



Practice basic math facts and read with my parents at home .
Attend school regularly and on time.
Give my best effort to learn and complete assignments on time.
Please review this School-Parent Compact with your child. This School-Parent Compact will be discussed with you
throughout the year at different school-family events as we work together to help your child succeed in school.
