The topic I have chosen is: The discovery of a new star
What happened was: Fisher McBob, an astronomer with the Houston Light and
Star Company, identified a new red dwarf star. Right now it is named ST –
1701000.
This happened on: October 19th in: Houston, Texas (& the Milky Way galaxy)
You might also be interested to know that: The Milky Way is a barred spiral galaxy,
and scientists think it has between 100 and 400 billion stars.
This event affects: Fisher McBob, because he will get the credit for the
discovery of a new star. He will also get to name it.
It also affects: future scientists, because when they chart stars, they now know
this one exists. Also, scientists now think red dwarf stars might possibly have
life on them, so that could be useful information for future scientists.
Finally, it affects: current scientists, because the more useful discoveries a
scientific department makes, the more likely it is to keep getting money from
the government, from grants, and from private donations.
One thick question we could discuss about this event is: If humans met living
creatures from a planet in this star’s solar system, how should we handle that
relationship?
