To be completed by the Dental Practice Team
Comments or Barriers to Improvement:
Practice seems to show good compliance with WHTM. Some aspects such as washer disinfectors and ultrasonic baths are not
used. This has been discussed with the dentists and nurses who jointly feel that whilst it would be very nice to have such
equipment, the practical application of them is yet to reach the day to day needs of NHS general practice. (this may change) The
long cycle times in particular for washer disinfectors leads to specialised equipement such as endodontic handpieces being
unavailable. The practice has purchased a faster cycle autoclave (replacing an LS5) within the last month to try and maintain as
rapid a throughput of equipment as possible. The use of long cycle cleaners would go against this ethos and lead to staff having
to work late simply to switch off the cleaner. To provide the nurses with better protection when manually cleaning instruments,
industrial type cloves are used rather than household gloves which are thicker and give better protection from sharps.
In time, the practice will have a purpose build cleaning room where only cleaning occurs in it. However the leasehold nature of the
building currently prevents this and the intention of the practice owner to purchase the freehold is a hindrance on the available
cash to advance this. Hopefully in time, circumstances will allow us to progress this.

Tutor Feedback:
The Dental Team appear to have carried out a thorough self-assessment audit of WHTM0105 requirements and attained a high level of compliance. Some
areas requiring change/improvement have been identified and a planned timescale to implement them made. There is reasoned argument to the barrier for
implementing other changes. The audit is completed.
