Cell Phone Case Design Brief
1. Target Audience: Millions of cell phone users
2. Designers: Wando IED Design Team
3. Problem Statement:
Cell phones today are very expensive and increasingly fragile. Given the high cost to repair
or replace these phones, there is high demand for a low cost solution to protect the phones
and individualize them at the same time.
4. Design Statement:
 Research and create at least three brainstorming sketches in ISO view of your
preliminary design thoughts for your case. The sketches must be annotated with overall
dimensions and descriptions of the case features. Use classroom graph paper.
 Select the design that you like the best. On a sheet of paper, type a justification
statement about why you chose that design.
 Model the cell phone case using Inventor to include the following features you learned
in class: extrude, shell, rectangular (or circular) pattern and fillet (or chamfer) .
5. Constraints:
- Your design must be a single .ipt file
- The inside cavity must match the dimensions of your cell phone, plus .01”.
- The wall thickness of the case is .0625”
- Fillets/chamfers should match the fillets/chamfers on your cell phone.
- There must be cutouts for every connection/button/screen (ie. charging, volume, power, etc)
on the cell phone.
- There must be a themed design to the cell phone case. If you use a trademarked name, or
logo, you must include the appropriate notations, ie. ©, ®, ™.
- There should be a rectangular or circular pattern for functional or aesthetic reasons.
- The cell phone case must be aesthetically pleasing, not “default” gray.
- Material is ABS plastic.
- Sketch your initials on the back of the cell phone cover with the text tool and use the emboss
feature to engrave your initials.
6. Deliverables:
 Cover page (title, name, date, artwork)
 Brainstorming sketches and justification
 Size A idw file with top and bottom ISO views (no dimensions). In the notes, list the
material, volume, weight, and surface area of your cell phone case.
