He is a visual learner who enjoys working with technology, hands on activities and participating in small groups. Jayden receives his education in a self-contained classroom with an 8:1:1 ratio at an alternative school district. The curriculum barriers he faces include above accessing grade level reading materials, writing mechanics: organizing ideas, appropriate spacing on lines and spelling. • • • Sensory needs/diet implemented through OT services High frustration level leads to challenging behaviors and he does not enjoy writing Sensory needs/diet implemented through OT Writing with Kurzweil 3000 Jayden’s goals were to read informational text above Jayden’s reading level with use of assistive technology, complete the writing process to create an informational writing piece and a narrative writing piece and relate science curriculum topic to prior knowledge and make connections to personal life. The assistive technology I decided to use with Jayden to meet these goals were Kurzweil 3000 software program, digital books including Raz Kids and teacher created PowerPoint, as well as Pictello, an iPad book creator app. With implementation of the SETT Framework (Student, Environment, Tasks and Tools) my student was able to access grade level curriculum and meet Common Core Standards through use of Assistive Technology in the areas of Science, Reading and Writing.
