University of Greenwich
Early Career Researcher Communicator of the Year Prize
In the 2011/12 academic year, the University of Greenwich will award a new Early Career
Researcher Communicator of the Year Prize.
For the purposes of this initiative, communication is defined as the
application of research findings to a wider audience than purely
academic, for example, in media, public policy or other practical
implementation such as a product licence or other form of exploitation.
The prize will be awarded to an early career academic or researcher currently in-post at the
University of Greenwich. In order to be eligible staff must: meet the University ECR criteria, have
gained their PhD (or equivalent research degree) within the past 5 years (since 2006) and have
been appointed as academic or research staff of the University of Greenwich within the past 8
years.
Awards will be decided on the basis of nomination portfolios which must include evidence of
material. Portfolios should be prepared in consultation with the nominee’s line manager and the
relevant Director of Research and Enterprise, following the format given in the Appendix below.
Portfolios must include a statement of support from the relevant Dean of School. The requirement
of submission of the nomination electronically by the Dean of School is in lieu of hard copy sign-off
by that Dean.
Nomination portfolios should be submitted electronically to Lara Everest (l.d.everest@gre.ac.uk)
in Greenwich Research and Enterprise (GRE) by close of business on Monday 19th March 2012.
Nominations must be submitted by the Dean of School of the nominee, from their University of
Greenwich email account.
The Deputy Vice Chancellor Research and Enterprise will make the final decision(s) on the awards,
supported by the Director, Greenwich Early Career Research Initiative and an Advisory Panel which
will include senior researchers in the University.
Awards will consist of a research grant of £3,000 for one year to support the work of the winner,
and a citation which will be presented at the Annual ECR Celebration in summer 2012.
