Once Upon a Time at Eureka!
Step into the wonderful world of books this Easter to meet characters, storytellers, illustrators
and authors at Eureka! during their event Once Upon a Time, running from Saturday 28 March
right through to Sunday 19 April.
The Eureka! storytellers will be inviting visitors to Tell a Tale Together in interactive storymaking sessions where they’ll create a unique tale every time. Plus, each day will welcome
different well-known literary characters, so you never know who you could meet as you explore
the grounds and galleries! From Friday 10 to Monday 13 April they’ll be celebrating the 150th
anniversary of the publication of Alice in Wonderland with Storymagic Theatre who’ll be running
their unique family shows.
The popular children’s museum is also hosting their very own mini literature festival, with a
programme of appearances from children’s writers and illustrators sharing their inspiring,
creative work with visitors, including 2015 Blue Peter Book Awards winner Andy Seed.

Saturday 28 March - Jan Michael
Launching the event is acclaimed children’s author Jan Michael, who
has written more than thirteen books including several titles for
children. Jan will be talking about her book ‘Moorside Boy’ which tells
the tale of Percy, who has moved to Seggleswick in the Yorkshire Dales
with his mother. Jan has donated all proceeds from the sale of
‘Moorside Boy’ to the NSPCC.

Tuesday 31 March - Andy Thompson
Andy is an animator, illustrator, cartoonist and manga artist. His
animation work includes many films including Sweeney Todd, The
Chronicles of Narnia, Where the Wild Things Are and Harry Potter. His
first love is manga and has been since he was in his teens but he also
loves designing comics with children too.

Wednesday 1 April - Dom Conlon
Join author Dom Conlon as he reads his Tiny the Giant picture books.
ROAR like giants, whisper like trees, echo like the mountains and even

Saturday 4 April - David Gibb
Letters Through Your Door is a fun and exciting album and stage show
packed full of catchy and toe tapping numbers perfect for three years
plus and their families. Created by 23 year old musician, songwriter
and storyteller, David Gibb, this new musical show features original
songs as well as traditional children’s songs from across the world.
Themes range from the everyday to the surreal, but whether it’s
finding a dragon in your bedroom, dreaming about swimming in the sea, or simply
waiting for the postman to arrive, there’s something here for everyone!

Tuesday 7 April - Nick Toczek
Nick Toczek is a best-selling author, a full-time professional writer
and performer, who currently works variously as a poet, magician,
storyteller, puppeteer, novelist, creative writing tutor and journalist.
He has published three dozen books and has made more than
40,000 public appearances.
Nick will be performing his one man Million-Miles-An-Hour Show
featuring poetry, magic, comedy, puppetry and participation.

Wednesday 8 April - Lynne Chapman
Lynne Chapman is an award-winning children’s author and illustrator
with over 30 books to her name. Come along to one of her muchloved Family Storytelling Sessions, where you can watch her draw,
hear some very silly stories, sing and generally have a lot of fun!
Plus, Lynne will draw animal characters for you to guess, and if you
get them right, you could take one home with you.

Tuesday 14 April - Andy Seed
Fresh from the 2015 Blue Peter Book Awards, where his book The
Silly Book of Side-Splitting Stuff won in the Best Book with Facts
category, Andy will be joining us to host lively sessions for children
aged 5-11 which will get them excited about books and reading. The
emphasis is on humour and fun, but also features lots of interesting
facts as well as stories and poems.
Andy Seed is the author of over 20 books including The Silly Book of Side-Splitting Stuff
(also chosen as one of the best books of 2014 by The Guardian ) and the acclaimed
funny poetry collection Razzle Dazzle.

Wednesday 15 April - Jim Medway
Come and enjoy creating funny animals and mythical beasts with
Turvytops and Land of the Frontiebacks illustrator Jim Medway. Join
in a fun drawing and guessing game, then go wild sketching yourself
with creature features, using simple speech bubbles to growl, grunt
and giggle. Jim's graphic novel Playing Out was shortlisted for the
Young People's British comic Awards 2013, and Frontiebacks won the Junior Design
Awards Best Children’s Book 2014. He also draws for the weekly Phoenix comic, and
leads Create Comics sessions across the UK.

Friday 17 April - John Row
John is an enchanting storyteller, fiction writer and poet.
John is a familiar figure at literature, music and children's festivals
around the world, including looking after the story tent on the Kids
Field at Glastonbury and the story telling area at Cambridge Folk
Festival.

Reading plays a pivotal role in child development, particularly of literacy skills, so this Easter
Eureka! is hoping to inspire families to continue using stories and books in their play and
learning at home whilst having a fun day out!
Sessions will be bookable on the day, and are free with standard admission or your Eureka!
annual pass.

3. Eureka! is open 10am–5pm at weekends, during half-terms and holidays. Term-time
Eureka! is open 10am –4pm Tuesday - Friday, and 10am-5pm Saturday and Sunday. The
museum is closed on term-time Mondays and between 24-26 December.
