MINUTES
February 17, 2015
Attendees: Fr. Robert Kacalo, Marie Mutter, Jane Babik, Brian Fonk, Michelle Hermann, Boni Maurice, Joe Mealy, Nancy Mueller, Peter Olszewski, Mary Villwock, Kathy

Marie Mutter opened the meeting at 6:35p.m. followed by a prayer led by N. Mueller.
Once minutes of the Jan. 20th meeting were reviewed and corrections made, J. Babik
motioned and M. Hermann seconded that the minutes be approved as corrected. The
motion passed.
Pastor’s Report: Renovation of SMD Church interior is set to begin. Masses will be
held in the annex the next 5 weeks. Parishioners are encouraged to attend weekend
Masses at SRB due to the small capacity of the annex where Masses will still be held.
Services will resume in the church proper on Palm Sunday. As parish council members
Father is encouraging us to attend as many Lenten services as possible. On Feb. 28th
a District 3 Synod meeting will be held to determine ways to begin implementing ideas
formulated at the Synod. Statistics such as the current number of parishioners in each
parish will be presented to each church. The finance committees are working to balance
their budgets. The Stewardship Committee taking the recommendations of Barb Vite
are working on brochures and fliers that reflect such suggestions. Volunteers working
on SRB 50th anniversary will provide articles, trivia and pictures about the church’s history in upcoming bulletins. A banner will be put up in church to mark the anniversary.
More volunteers are needed to work with the committee.
Old Business: As a parish council we decided to postpone our discussion of our visions of the future of our parishes until after our March 17 meeting.
New Business: SRB 50th anniversary celebration will include a parish picnic on June
28th, a parish float in the Un. Grove 4th of July parade and a parish mission in October.
Bill Waldron will be driving his tractor to pull our float.
Liaison to Committee Reports:
• Finance - Trustees
SMD: J. Babik: Interior renovation of the church proper has started. The budget is
being worked on.
SRB: B. Fonk: The Spring fundraiser on April 25th will include a pasta dinner, basket
raffles and silent auction. The date for the Fall Festival is Sept. 27th.
• Stewardship - M. Mutter and J. Babik: Newly married couples are being invited to
give testimonials about their faith. See J. Babik to sign up to be a fish fry greeter.
• SRB Building and Grounds - P. Olszewski No report.
• Prayer and Worship - B. Maurice: Within 6 weeks SMD Masses will resume in the
church proper. Following the Holy Thursday liturgy at SMD, Eucharistic Adoration will
be held there rather than as in previous years at SRB. First Communion will be held
on May 3rd during both church masses. Confirmation will be held May 6th.
• Faith Formation - M. Hermann: First Reconciliation was held Feb. 14th. Bill Johnson
led the Jan. 25th meeting for Confirmation candidates and their sponsors. The meal
trip to St. Ben’s on Jan. 8 was rescheduled forJune 12 due to poor weather. The Confirmation retreat on Feb. 6th-8th went well. All Saints Youth Band will play at the Ash
Wednesday Mass at SRB. More youth need to sign up for the “Catholic Heart” sponsored and the “Youth Works” sponsored mission trips this summer.The youth collected some $1,927 during their recent stock sales. 10 participated in the recent youth
lock-in and 25 in the bowling event. Anthony Horzen, a seminarian, will give a vocation talk on Feb. 22nd. To raise awareness of Youth Group Olympics the March 8th
event will be moved to SJB. Vocation Bible School will be held on August 3rd-7th at
SRB. The theme is “SonSparks Labs”.
• Human Concerns - K. Jaeger: 194 cans were collected for Souper Bowl Sunday.
food drive. The Lenten “Baby Shower” will run through Good Friday. Easter Giving
Trees will be up the weekend of March 7th/8th. Distribution of Easter food “baskets”
will be on Palm Sunday. The next scheduled meeting will be on April 14th.
• Providence Catholic - N. Mueller: Providence will close the end of this school year
and reopen as the West Campus of All Saints Catholic School. Currently the 4 All
Saints Catholic schools in Kenosha will become the East Campus. Negotiations are in
progress. Providence teachers will have to reapply for their jobs. Students’ tuitions
will be raised by $500. The amount of financial support our parishes plan to give All
Saints is in discussion. St. Alphonsus in New Munster will close at the end of this
school.
• Catholic Central - B. Maurice: Incoming freshmen registration was held last Friday.
The student body is doing well academically. Many graduates get accepted to some
of the best colleges in the nation.
• Staff Report: Father covered this information in his Pastor’s Report.
• Circle of Catholic Women - M. Villwock: Currently 20 are signed to see “Dixie Swim
Club” at the Racine Theater on March 14th. Although not a COCW event, 15 people
are signed up for the March 26th Passion Play.
Next meeting is Tues., March 17th at 6:30p.m. (followed by a brainstorming session on what parish council members envision our parishes to be like in the future). M. Mutter volunteered to led prayers at that meeting.
