All students completing a B.A. in Mass Communication Interpersonal Communication shall complete the first two
semesters of a second language. Students may alternatively fulfill
the language requirement by proof of academic work in the
second language (CLEP test through LANG 1224), four years of
high school language courses, or transfer work from another
institution.

With the creation of five new courses, there may be questions raised about the “No” box being
checked. With the current Interpersonal Communication faculty, we have been offering these courses
as special topics courses.

7. Please provide a concise, yet comprehensive, statement that explains the reasons for requesting the
change. Include documentation or assessment information supporting the specific request (if
possible).
The department is requesting curriculum changes to the Interpersonal Communication degree program to
update and modernize course offerings to reflect academic trends in nationally-ranked top communication
programs.
 MCOM 3053 Persuasion and Social Influence is being deleted from required courses because it no
longer reflects the direction of the Interpersonal Communication degree program.
 The following courses are being deleted as electives because they no longer reflect the direction of
the Interpersonal Communication degree program.
