BACKGROUND INFORMATION
The National Centre for Craft & Design is the largest venue in England entirely dedicated to
the exhibition, celebration and promotion of international craft and design. Situated in a
former seed warehouse in Sleaford, a Lincolnshire market town, the Centre boasts four
exciting exhibition spaces; a vibrant events programme; an innovative craft shop; a
licensed café and a roof-top viewing balcony.
We are looking for a bright individual with a genuine enthusiasm for arts and culture, to join
our operations team and support all areas of the Centre’s increasing activity.
The Centre is open from 10am to 5pm every day of the year (except Christmas Day,
Boxing Day and New Year’s Day). The post of Duty Manager will provide a broad overview
of working within a contemporary exhibition venue

JOB PURPOSE
To ensure the highest standards are met in the daily operation of The National Centre for
Craft & Design and to provide a quality experience for all visitors to the facility.
KEY TASKS
Operations
 To co-ordinate and deliver the daily operational tasks in running The National Centre
efficiently and in line with contractual requirements, including: opening and closing
the building; periodic walk the floor checks; fire safety checks; health and safety
checks, ordering necessary change; checking and maintaining safe contents, till and
float balances; issuing refunds and dealing with members of the public.
 To ensure the Centre’s front-of-house facilities are staffed accordingly at all times
during open hours.
 To ensure the highest quality standards are met through the adherence to Leisure in
the Community Trust’s quality management programme, ensuring excellence in
customer service and the provision of a clean and tidy environment.
 In liaison with the Operations Manager, ensure legal and contractual standards are
met and in accordance with health and safety, take any required actions in situations
likely to cause accident, injury or likely to render the buildings, structures, plant or
equipment unsafe.
 In liaison with the Operations Manager, oversee the cleaning programme in
accordance with the cleaning specification ensuring that the facilities are maintained
to the highest standards of cleanliness at all times.
 To support the safe evacuation of the building in the event of an emergency

Customer service and care (Daily)
 To actively welcome and engage visitors to the Centre in conversation, enriching the
visitor experience and offering details about forthcoming events, exhibitions and
learning programmes and respond to any general enquiries.
 To integrate with visitors and staff to gain a broader understanding and knowledge of
the ethos of the Centre and the needs of visitors and staff through feedback and
dialogue.
 To provide lunch cover to front of house areas including the shop and gallery’s.
Other (occasional)
 To contribute to the development of the organisation through active participation in
staff meetings.
 To provide cover for colleagues leave and sickness absence within the wider team
 To undertake any other duties commensurate with the level and nature of the post.

SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION
Employer
Leisure in the Community Trust
Salary
Salary is £7.15 per hour
Car Allowance
A mileage allowance of £0.20 for diesel and £0.24 for petrol per mile will be reimbursed
for all travel carried out for work purposes
Office Hours
The post holder is required to have a flexible approach to working hours, of benefit to
both parties and agreed in advance with the line manager, as the job will require flexible
working.
Holidays
The annual holiday entitlement is 28 days per year pro rata.
Sickness
Sickness absence will not be paid for first 3 days of absence; there on entitlement to
sick pay will be in accordance with the appropriate rate of Statutory Sick Pay.
Pension
The post holder will be invited to join the company’s nominated stakeholder pension
scheme. However, at present with the current number of hours this does not apply.
