A Death in the Family through the eyes of a child
Looking at grief in a family situation particularly when it is a child who is bereaved is
something not always handled using the eyes of the child. The manner of death can
also be significant. Counsellors and visitors have a lot of experience which they
don’t always recognise – both personal and professional.
Building a Child’s Resilience and Confidence through Communication
This workshop will look at which methods of communication are
most effective in building a child's self-confidence, boosting their
resilience, enabling them to handle difficult circumstances, to do well at school
and to make good friendships. It is often the small tweaks in how we
communicate with children, and in the home, that can bring about big changes.
Young Peoples Experiences of Bereavement
How experiences vary across ages, relationships circumstances and how young
people make sense of those experiences.
Where Words Fail, Music Speaks
This workshop will offer a brief overview of music therapy as a profession and place
it in a historical context. It will explore the many ways in which the therapeutic
music-making process unfolds, with particular reference to the place it has within
the context of a hospice environment for those who are grieving. There will be some
short case studies as well as the opportunity to make music together.
Learning Disability and Bereavement
.
Noelle and Beverley will share their experience of working with children and adults
with a learning disability and families who have been bereaved. In particular they
will explore complicated loss, where the death was premature or avoidable.
Self-Harm and Young People
The Workshop will take place as an interactive lecture with the goal of increasing
awareness and understanding on the issue of self-harm and young people,
highlighting risk factors, the different forms of self-harm, and guidance on
effectively supporting a young self-harmer.
