BARTLETT ARBORETUM & GARDENS ANNOUNCES SUMMER CONCERT SCHEDULE
This summer’s concert series at the Bartlett Arboretum & Gardens promises to be exciting with both
classical and pop performances by some of the area’s finest talent.
July 6th
10:00 a.m. Trevor Babb This Yale Doctoral student performs classical and flamenco guitar. Audiences
are “Happily baffled” (New Haven Advocate) by his courageous approach to both very old and very new
music. Mr. Babb has been awarded a Fulbright; the Yale School of Music’s Eliot Fisk Prize and has
performed in Carnegie Hall as well as throughout the United States and Europe. He will perform his own
compositions as well as those of other classical musicians.
5:00 p.m. Annie Nirschel Returns! Nineteen year old singer/songwriter Annie Nirschel has performed on
television and in events across the country since she was seven years old. Nirschel’s music jingle
business, Superbtunes won her the 2014 Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship Global Young
Entrepreneur of the Year award. In 2012, Annie won “Best High School Song” for an original
composition submitted to Constituting American 9.17 founded by television and radio star, Janine
Turner.
July 13th 10:00 a.m. Brazilian Jazz Trio Performing harp, percussion and flute. The trio comprised of Harpist
Claudia Wigent, (American University, National and Baltimore Symphonies, The Smithsonian Chamber
Players, The Wiz, etc.) Columbian percussionist and educator Memo Acevedo (performed and/or
recorded with Tito Puente, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Moacir Santos, Ivan Lins, Flora Purim, Stephen Stills, Tom
Scott, Gregory Hines, among many) and Maryly Culpepper (Doctoral Degree/USC School of Music,
Masters of Music/Yale University, Bachelor of Arts/Dartmouth College, current Director and Producer of
the Fontenay Chamber Players, Adjunct Professor of Flute and Music/New Canaan Country School and
principal flute/Connecticut River Valley Orchestra.
5:00 p.m. The Atwater-Donnelly Duo Performing American folk music. This highly praised husbandwife duo blends incredible vocals with an astounding array of instruments including the mountain
dulcimer, old-time banjo, tin whistle, guitar, mandolin, harmonica, and more. Every performance is
surprisingly different and always entertaining, exciting and educational with the award-winning duo,
Atwater-Donnelly!

10:00 a.m. Jane Mitchell performs viola.

July 27th
10:00 a.m. Katrin Endrikat A passionate, innovative solo and chamber musician, Katrin, who performs
classical guitar was born in Germany. She is dedicated to finding new ways to engage her audiences. A
dedicated soloist, Katrin gave her NYC debut at the Clemente Soto Velez Theater in 2012 and has
appeared in leading concert series including the International Guitar Symposium in Iserlohn, the
International Guitar Day at the Mannes School of Music (NYC) and the Wolf & Lehmann Guitar Concert
Series in Berlin. She has won numerous awards and prizes and believes that music brings color to lives of
others including the children she works with.
5:00 p.m. The Subourbons! The Subourbons get together just to enjoy playing everything from classic
rock to the blues, to folk & modern music. The casual camaraderie began in a basement and has
followed them onto stages around the area. Check out the spontaneous fun!
August 3rd
10:00 a.m. Joe Trent Performing wooden Baroque flutes and bass recorders. As a flutist, Joe Trent has
performed with numerous ensembles, including the Mexico City Philharmonic, the New York Chamber
Ensemble, Philadelphia Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, Greenwich Symphony, New Haven Symphony,
North Eastern Philharmonic, Jupiter Symphony, Monadnock Music Festival, Radio City Orchestra and
numerous Broadway productions. He has performed in Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall,
Jordon Hall and numerous others. He serves on the faculty of many music programs in the greater New
York area. He attended the Royal College of Music and holds diplomas from the New England
Conservatory and Queens College.
5:00 p.m. Red Molly Returns! Calling all Redheads – you know who you are! Red Molly fans! The folk
trio of of Laurie MacAllister (vocals, guitar, banjo), Abbie Gardner (vocals, guitar, Dobro, lap steel guitar),
and Molly Venter (vocals, guitar) perform original works composed by each of the group members, as
well as covers of other songwriters we all love.
August 10th
10:00 a.m. Trevor Babb Duo Trevor Babb and Arash Noori perform dueling classical guitars. Audiences
are “Happily baffled” (New Haven Advocate) by Babb’s courageous approach to both very old and very
new music. A Fulbright winner and winner of the Yale School of Music’s Eliot Fisk Prize Babb has
performed in Carnegie Hall as well as throughout the United States and Europe. Performances of Arash
Noori’s have been described as “well-wrought and subtly moving” (New Haven Advocate). Noori is
known as a versatile musician with a repertoire ranging from early to contemporary music. A top prize
winner, Arash is currently pursuing the Doctorate of Musical Arts degree at Yale School of Music.
5:00 p.m. Cookie Thomas The Stamford Advocate & Greenwich Time say that Cookie Thomas’ voice is
“smoother than a triple latte hold the cinnamon”. Inspired by BB King, Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra and
other classic artists Thomas is a versatile vocalist who performs the best of all the classic standards.
August 17th
10:00 a.m. Xinyi Xu An active orchestral, chamber and solo player, violinist Xinyi Xu is a member of New
Haven Symphony Orchestra. She was invited to the 2010 Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival, has toured
throughout Germany and eastern Europe and performed in Carnegie Hall. Ms. Xu served as principal
violinist when she became the fellowship recipient at the Aspen Music Festival in 2011. She holds
Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts in Language and Literature from Bard College, Master of Music
from Yale School of Music (where she is also an Artist Diploma candidate.)
5:00 p.m. Pinhead Angels Performing an eclectic mix of Power Pop, R&B, Celtic, Jazz and Rock & Roll
the Pinhead Angels are comprised of Linda Allen on vocals & guitar, Josh Carruthers on the drums, Raf
Carruthers plays bass, Mick Leonard on guitar & vocals and Jen Vanderlyn who also contributes vocals
and guitar. Performing mostly original material with a smattering of tasteful cover material, the Pinhead
Angels will wow you!
