Company Overview
Axine (www.axinewater.com) is a fast-growing, Vancouver-based, cleantech company that has
developed a breakthrough, solution for treating toxic organic pollutants and ammonia in
industrial wastewater solving a multi-billion dollar problem for customers in a wide range of
industries. By combining advanced nanomaterials with proprietary catalysts and cell architecture
in a simple, modular design, Axine is on target to deliver the most effective, energy efficient
treatment in the market – at a fraction of the cost of alternative solutions.
Axine has the potential to fundamentally change industrial wastewater treatment and is actively
working with early adopter companies in the oil and gas, chemical and waste management
industry. Since being seed financed in 2012, the Company has successfully completed a 10X
cell scale-up and is on track to deploy field pilots at customer sites in 2015, followed by early
commercial product in 2016.
The Company has a highly experienced leadership team with a track record of successfully
commercializing and deploying industrial technologies. Axine has also attracted some of the
most experienced investors in cleantech including venture capital firms Chrysalix Energy
Ventures, The Roda Group and the venture arm of the Business Development Bank of Canada.
Position
Axine is seeking an exceptional individual to play a key role in developing customer relationships
with key end-users and channel partners to commercialize Axine’s technology. Working closely
with Axine’s senior leadership team, the primary role of the Business Development Executive will
be to initiate, develop and maintain relationships with early adopter customers from the time of
initial wastewater analysis and technology benchmarking through to full commercial deployment
at customer sites. Axine is seeking an individual with a diverse, well-rounded set of skills,
including outstanding capabilities in technology marketing, commercialization strategy, and
customer engagement. In addition, this individual will have a proven track record executing and
delivering similar types of assignments in a fast-moving and dynamic environment of a growing
technology company.
Responsibilities



Establish, qualify, and maintain relationships with early adopter customers in target
markets and, working closely with Axine’s technical, engineering and commercial teams,
develop agreements and POs for pilots and early commercial sales
Identify, contact and interview prospective customers in target market verticals to
evaluate customer “pain points” that can be addressed by Axine technology, understand
competing incumbent solutions, develop business cases, and map customer decision
making processes.
Develop a pipeline of early adopter customers to collaborate with Axine to commercialize
early applications including field pilots and early commercial deployment




Analyze Axine target vertical and sub-vertical industrial wastewater markets including oil
and gas, chemicals, refining, waste management, and others as identified.
Provide input into business development strategy and tactics, sales processes,
marketing strategy and collateral materials
Maintain rigorous standards for sales and business development documentation,
customer profiles and reporting
Analyze competing technologies and benchmark with Axine solutions to establish
corporate and facility level value proposition
Required Skills and Experience









Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required. Preference will be given to candidates with
advanced degree in relevant field
Minimum of 5+ years relevant work experience in business development, sales or a
related field with an early-stage water, wastewater or clean technology company
Strong technology marketing, business development and sales skills working with early
stage water/wastewater and/or clean technologies and a proven track record closing
early-stage testing, piloting, demonstration, joint development and other commercial
agreements and securing POs with large corporate customers
Demonstrated capability to identify, establish and develop relationship with key decisionmakers (management and facility level) at large industrial customers leading to early
sales. Existing water/wastewater contacts and relationships in Axine’s target markets
Experience in research and analysis of industrial water, wastewater and/or related
markets
Knowledge of and experience with industrial wastewater treatment technologies, costs,
and suppliers including advanced oxidation, adsorption, biological and electrochemical
processes
Familiarity with technology marketing, business development and sales processes and
techniques
Experience working in a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team including marketing,
business development, product engineering and project execution
Proficient in PowerPoint, Webex and Excel.
