Advisory update – trying to make connections with kids and adults and being part of
something …. Greater good out there
o Students are more comfortable with routines and program
o 8th grade community service projects are going well
o December theme is around the Gift of Friendship
Project 300 – successful year 20,000 cans donated to Salvation Army
Patriots Player will be coming to McCarthy due to having the most Stop n Shop cards
sent to our school
o Brief - @ an hour
 Possibly (2) 20 minute assemblies for 5th/6th and then 7th/8th
 Hoping to take a picture
 Do not have date or person yet but next couple of weeks
Concerts kicking off
o Strings
o Orchestra Concert at McCarthy
 Travelling to State House; some others may be too
o Band at PAC

7 Grade going to the Christmas Carol in Manchester
Bathroom renovation is out to bid with engineering

o Quebec Trip: @ 156 students going which is @ 7 to 8 more than previous years
o 1st deposit went out on 12/3
o 4th bus will be needed so price may go up a bit; similar cost to previous years
o @ $686 unless we drop in numbers then goes up
School Committee Report: Barbara Skaar
o Number of parents attended
 Playground Time was brought up
 Lunches
o A company was interested in paying to put their name on our Turf Field but that is
not our policy. Further discussions to take place.
o PARCC – chosen for trial run (@ 50 children to take trail)
o Autism programs to be included at school
 Looking to see how we can bring children back into buildings
o PSP negotiations coming up
o Full day Kindergarten – more to come on cost, space, etc
Fund raising:






Recycle Day – Successful. We have $2088 for each school.
o April 26th is the next one
Soup arrives on Monday 12/9. Pick up @ 11 – 6
Scrips Gift Cards – Coordinator: Georgia Fredericks – Friday 12/6 is the last day for this

Last year the PTO gave out a $500 scholarship for an 8th grader moving on based on
an essay he/she submitted – further discussion in January
