Description of Business Environment:
Lockheed Martin is the prime contractor and Design Authority for the Merlin Mk2 Royal
Navy anti-submarine and anti-surface helicopter system. MCSP, the Merlin Capability
Sustainment Programme included technology enhancements to the aircraft avionics and
tactical system, ground preparation/analysis systems, training systems and support
infrastructure. Whilst the base programme is nearing completion LM are working on a
number of follow on enhancements and adjacent programme such as CROWSNEST and
other opportunities such as the Vigilance Product Range.We are looking for a Radar
Systems Engineer to work within the Military Solutions team. This encompasses the
programme life cycle from requirements generation/derivation, to all aspects of integration
and performance, sell-off and support.
Specific Job Description:
Provides expert knowledge and design expertise of airborne radar systems as part of the
Systems Engineering team with knowledge of both M-Scan & AESA Radar Systems.
Performs technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, cost and risk,
and supportability and effectiveness analyses for total systems. Analyses are performed at
all levels of total system product to include: concept, design, fabrication, test, installation,
operation, maintenance and disposal. Ensures the logical and systematic conversion of
customer or product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical,
schedule, and cost constraints. Performs functional analysis, performance analysis,
timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation and interface definition
studies to translate customer requirements into hardware and software specifications.
Key Responsibilities
 Undertake Lockheed Martin Systems Engineering activities including:
 Radar Systems Analysis
 Trade Studies to inform radar source selection and installation
 Review Vendor Documentation
 Radar performance modelling
 Requirements Derivation and Management
 Systems design and interface documentation
 System demonstration and testing
 Support to integration and test
 Undertake assessment of current airborne surveillance radars and control systems and
identify capability gaps against requirements.


Technical liaison with customer and supplier stakeholders
In time, and subject to approval through the Competency Management System (CMS)
take on signatory responsibility for radar CoDs and associated work products (including
Flight Approval Documentation and internal DA checklists)
Additional/Occasional Duties and Tasks:
Support to IRAD teams with the capture of operational requirements, systems engineering,
Radar source selection/assessment, interoperability assessments and training.
Required Skills:
Essential Educational Requirements of the role:
 Degree in an engineering discipline or other higher education with equivalent
experience
 Thorough knowledge and significant experience of airborne radar system architectures
and system integration.
 Desired Skills for the Role
 The candidate must have proven inter-personal and technical skills and must be able to
work within a small technical team and provide technical expertise and leadership
when required.
 The candidate must be self starting and capable of working effectively without day to
day supervision under only general direction. Work is reviewed upon completion for
adequacy in meeting objectives.

interpreting and influencing Customer thinking.
 The candidate must be capable of formulating proposal plans / schedules,


